Hands-on crafts

At Murasaki Mura, you can make hand-crafted glasses and beer mugs from Ryukyu glass. The activity focuses on making glass objects yourself. Check workshop availability before you arrive; reservation requirements may change.

Another activity at Murasaki Mura combines making Chinsuko with learning about history. Visitors make Chinsuko in a traditional farmhouse with a red-tiled roof and learn about history along the way. Textile and pottery traditions

Yuntanza Hanaui is a living textile tradition in Yomitan. The local cooperative has more than 100 weavers. The tradition continues in the village, though individual workshops may change. This brings both a continuing tradition and a specific community of weavers into focus.

Yachimun no Sato grew up around a communal kiln. The pottery made there is known as Yomitanzan pottery. In contrast to the continuing weaving tradition, the focus here is on the community’s shared origins around the kiln and the name given to the pottery that emerged from it.

Castle and landscape landmarks

Zakimi Castlewas registered as a World Heritage Site in 2000. This registration provides a dated reference point for Yomitan’s cultural history, setting it apart in time from traditions that continue in the village.

At Cape Zanpa, cliffs around 30 meters high stretch for approximately 2 kilometers. The northern part of the cape is designated as a coastal quasi-national park. The approximate measurements describe the extent of the cliffs; the designation applies specifically to the northern part, not automatically to the entire cape.

Tumai Gushiku is associated with Tomari Park in Yomitan and is considered one of the eight scenic spots in southern Okinawa. This distinction adds another scenic landmark to the coastal landscape of Zanpa.

Beach and facilities

Toguichi Beach has a park, a restaurant and barbecue facilities, and is used by local residents. If these facilities are important to your plans, check their availability before visiting. Toguichi offers a different point of interest from the landscape and protected-area features of Cape Zanpa.
