In Kyonan, walking options range from a short walk to a hiking trail that takes around 30 to 40 minutes. When looking for hotels in Awa District, you can consider whether walks, views or culture should be the focus of your trip planning.

Walking Trails and Views in Kyonan

Sakuma Dam Park has a walking trail about 2.4 kilometers long. Around 2,200 cherry trees line the paths, including Kawazu, Somei Yoshino and Yaezakura varieties. The park also features a monument plaza, a stone garden, a splash pool and a Yatsuhashi Bridge. A viewpoint in the park is a two- to three-minute walk away; from there, you can see the dam and the surrounding mountains.

The Daikoku Observation Tower, on the summit of Mount Daikoku, offers a different perspective. It takes about ten minutes to walk up to the tower. From there, you can look out over Katsuyama Fishing Port, the townscape and the Mineoka mountain range. On clear days, Mount Fuji and the Izu Islands are also visible. Views of these more distant destinations therefore depend on weather conditions.

The approximately three-kilometer Egatsuki Daffodil Road is a popular hiking trail; one way takes around 30 to 40 minutes. This makes it a different time commitment from the short walk to the viewpoint or the climb to Daikoku Tower. At Sakuma Dam Park, the trail length is known, but no walking time is given. For shorter trips around Kyonan, electric-assist rental bicycles are also available. Rental details may change.

Planning Your Journey and Accommodation

Since May 2026, some Axy express bus services on the Kamogawa–Tokyo route have stopped at Michi-no-Eki Hota Elementary School. The journey from the underground area B of the Tokyo Yaesu Bus Terminal via the Aqua-Line usually takes about 80 minutes. As schedules and fares may change, it is a good idea to check the service before your trip.

Michi-no-Eki Hota Elementary School also has accommodation; check current availability and booking conditions there before making plans. The direct-sales shop mainly carries local agricultural products, though its selection may vary. Michi-no-Eki Kyonan is separate and is located on Tokyo Bay; a beach resort is directly adjacent to it.

According to the listed access options, the summit area of Mount Nokogiri can also be reached by ropeway, via challenging hiking trails or by a toll road. Check current operating conditions before your trip. This helps you keep both the access method and the time required for your outings in mind as you plan.

Culture and Regional Connections

The “Minamoto Yoritomo Course” hiking route explores themes from the Jōmon and Kamakura periods. At the Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum, visitors can take part in workshops and try multicolor printing of ukiyo-e prints. Another historical connection is Ryushima: the site regarded as the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo landed is designated a historic site by Chiba Prefecture, and a landing monument stands there.

At the broader destination level of Chiba Prefecture, there are further cultural and culinary connections. Boshu-uchiwa fans are made from bamboo and covered with handmade washi paper, silk or cotton; Chiba is one of the three regions known for these fans, alongside Kyoto and Kagawa. Namero is a traditional fish dish from the coastal area in southern Chiba Prefecture.
