The Peace Road and Sea-Gal Farm give Idan two distinct points of interest: along the route, desert landscapes alternate with cultivated land; the individually tailored farm tour is available by prior appointment only. When planning their stay, visitors can distinguish between a landscape-focused outing and a farm visit that must be arranged in advance.
Peace Road: Desert, Hills and Fields
The Peace Road, marked in green, begins shortly before the entrance to Idan. Its route starts in Moshav Idan and heads south to Ein Yahav. Along the way, open desert, white marl hills and hills of the Lisan Formation contrast with the well-maintained agricultural plots of Arava residents. Travelers can also see the cultivated fields of Idan, Hatzeva and Ein Yahav.
The contrast in the landscape encompasses both desert formations and agricultural land use. Those interested in geological formations can look out for the marl hills and the hills of the Lisan Formation; the fields of the three places mentioned add cultivated land to the view. Both are part of the landscape described along the Peace Road.
Sea-Gal Farm: A Farm Tour by Appointment
Sea-Gal Farm in Moshav Idan offers an individually tailored farm tour for all ages. It is available by prior appointment. So don’t plan it as a spontaneous stop; make arrangements in advance and confirm them before your trip. The requirement applies to the tour: a visit is subject to a prior appointment.
More destinations in the broader Southern District
The Southern District offers everything from archaeological sites to oases and waterways. Avdat National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the route of the ancient Incense Road in the Negev Highlands. Masada is associated with the ancient Kingdom of Israel, its violent destruction and the last stand of Jewish patriots against the Roman army in 73 CE. Preserved remains include the ruins of Herod’s palaces and intact Roman siege works, among the most complete of their kind in the Roman world.
Ein Gedi Nature Reserve encompasses Israel’s largest oasis, with springs and waterfalls, ibex and rock hyraxes, as well as flowing waterways. A hiking trail in the reserve follows Nahal Arugot, which flows year-round, to a hidden waterfall and the pools in its upper reaches. Trail conditions may change after floods; check them before hiking.
The visitor center at the Ramon Crater combines the life story of Israel’s first astronaut, Lieutenant Colonel Ilan Ramon, with an introduction to the world’s largest crater and its unique natural phenomena. For both Masada and the Ramon Crater Visitor Center, prior registration through the visit coordination system secures a place for the selected visit date. Check your registration in advance.
