Nazareth Iliit's local landscape highlights are its viewpoints and the Nof HaGalil Promenade. Benches mark individual vantage points; the promenade offers walkers and cyclists views of the valley fields and Mount Tabor. This lets you distinguish between a planned stop at a viewpoint and a perspective along the promenade.

Viewpoints and the Promenade in Nof HaGalil

On Yizre'el Street, a bench offers a view of the landscape. At Nof HaGalil's highest point, another bench faces an illuminated water tower; this spot is 587 metres above sea level. The two locations have different focal points: the street bench is described for its landscape view, while the highest point also features the water tower and its elevation.

The Nof HaGalil Promenade runs through the forest between Tel Kasulot and Mount Dvora. Its views of the valley fields and Mount Tabor give the route a different landscape connection from the individual benches. For walkers and cyclists, two kinds of experience stand out: views from specific points and scenery along a promenade that passes through the forest.

Archaeological highlights in the wider destination of the Northern District

The wider destination of the Northern District also includes the archaeological sites of Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo. Tel Hazor is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city associated with biblical accounts; visits focus on the upper city. Tel Hazor includes Solomon's Gate, a six-chambered gate with two towers dating to the 10th century BCE. The Late Bronze Age palace is described as the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

The water supply is another distinctive archaeological feature of Tel Hazor. The site preserves significant remains of an underground water-collection system, an advanced engineering achievement adapted to the geography for water storage. The excavated shaft is 45 metres deep; steps three metres wide are carved into its vertical walls. The fortifications are considered the finest example of their kind in the area from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

Tel Megiddo offers a different archaeological focus. It is one of three tells preserving significant remains of cities associated with biblical accounts and closely linked to events in the Bible. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional in terms of the number of its temples, the continuity of cult activity, and the documented ritual practices. The orthogonal city plan dates to the Iron Age and has few parallels in the Levant. The regional highlights thus differ: at Tel Hazor, water engineering and fortifications stand out, among other features; at Tel Megiddo, the temple complex and city plan do.

Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 towards Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation before setting out.
