Around Menara, you can explore scenic views, remembrance and outdoor activities. At Menara Cliff, two viewpoints offer different perspectives on the landscape. A short trail adds another option, and HaMetzok HaShakran, an extreme sports venue, is also nearby. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the destinations by their character: landscape and history take center stage at the viewpoints, while HaMetzok HaShakran has a special access requirement.

Views and Remembrance at Menara Cliff

From the Amir-Karaa Viewpoint, the view extends across the Hula Valley, Kiryat Shmona, Mount Hermon and the northern Golan. The viewpoint is dedicated to Sergeant Amir Karaa, who fell in Lebanon on May 15, 1995. An audio station there explains the landscape and Sergeant Karaa’s life. This viewpoint thus brings together a sweeping landscape view and a specific tribute to the person it honors.

Another viewpoint on the History Stories Trail at Menara Cliff offers views of Mount Hermon, the Hula Valley and its lake, the Golan Heights, and Kiryat Shmona. The two viewpoints share several points of reference: Mount Hermon, the Hula Valley and Kiryat Shmona are mentioned at both. At the viewpoint on the History Stories Trail, the lake in the Hula Valley and the Golan Heights are among the explicitly named features; at the Amir-Karaa Viewpoint, the northern Golan is highlighted. This comparison helps put the different panorama descriptions into context.

Trail and Extreme Sports

The Woodland Trail at Menara Cliff is about 500 meters long and has no significant elevation changes. Its character is therefore distinct from the panoramic viewpoints: the focus here is on a short trail. If you include the trail in your plans, check its current accessibility before your visit.

HaMetzok HaShakran is one of the extreme sports venues in the Menara area. Access requires prior coordination with the climbing association. If you are interested in this activity, take this condition into account when planning.

Archaeological Sites in the Northern District

Travelers considering the broader destination of the Northern District can compare Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo as separate archaeological highlights. They complement the landscape and remembrance themes around Menara with examples of ancient urban history, without attributing their features to Menara itself.

A visit to Tel Hazor focuses on the Upper City. Its historical features include Solomon’s Gate, dating to the 10th century BCE, a gate with six chambers and two towers. The Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant. The fortifications are also notable: they are considered the finest example of their kind in the region from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

Tel Hazor also preserves significant remains of an underground water collection system. Its water storage is considered an advanced engineering achievement adapted to the geographic conditions. Three-meter-wide steps are carved into the walls of the water system’s vertical shaft. The excavated shaft at Tel Hazor is 45 meters deep. For directions to Tel Hazor National Park, Route 90 is relevant: the park can be reached from the north and south in the direction of Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation before setting out.

Tel Megiddo is a biblical tell and one of three tells that preserve significant remains of cities with biblical connections and are closely associated with events in the Bible. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional in terms of the number of its temples, the continuity of cult activity and the documented ritual practices. The orthogonal city plan dates from the Iron Age and has few parallels in the Levant. Tel Megiddo thus brings religious practice and urban planning together as distinct archaeological themes.
