Tebo Regency offers a range of travel experiences, from rainforests and protected areas to river and lake landscapes, waterfalls and cultural sites. When planning a trip, you can first decide whether to focus on nature, cultural history or a combination of both. The destinations range from Muara Tebo to villages and areas in other parts of the regency.

Rainforests and Landscapes

Part of Tebo Regency is covered by tropical rainforest. Rare animals such as Sumatran tigers, elephants, mouse-deer and muntjacs, as well as various bird species, can be found there; orchids and forest tree species are also part of this landscape. Bukit Dua Belas National Park extends across Tebo Regency and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Species found there include the Cendawan Muka Harimau plant, as well as tigers, rhinoceroses and Sumatran elephants. A community of the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) also lives in the park.

Another forest area is Kebun Raya Bukit Sari in Desa Teluk Rendah, Kecamatan Tebo Ilir. The protected forest covers 435 hectares and is jointly managed with Batanghari Regency. It was developed to conserve plants characteristic of Jambi and to provide a habitat for birds. The regency thus places emphasis on both protecting native plants and preserving wildlife diversity.

Riverbanks, Lakes and Waterfalls

Taman Tanggo Rajo is located in Muara Tebo, at the confluence of the Batang Tebo and Batanghari rivers. The site once served as a transport facility and landing place for motorboats that carried people and goods to and from Muara Tebo. Today, visitors can experience the river within the park. Taman Tanggo Rajo has several facilities for recreational and sporting activities; check their condition before your visit.

Danau Sigombak in Teluk Kembang Jambu offers a different landscape. The lake covers 40 hectares and is surrounded by green forest. A five-hectare island lies in its centre, and the lake is ring-shaped. The water is deeper in the north and relatively shallow in the south. The Mandi Balimau Gedang ceremony is held at Danau Sigombak every April. Check the exact event dates when planning your trip.

Air Terjun Gajah Mati waterfall has two tiers, 30 and 15 metres high, respectively. Visitors can swim in the waterfall’s pool and experience the forest landscape of Desa Muara Kilis. The journey from Kota Jambi can begin by private or rental vehicle, followed by a trail motorcycle and then a trek on foot. The Goa Harimau and Goa Kelelawar area can be explored on foot after travelling there by trail motorcycle. It has five pools, each less than 20 metres in diameter, locally known as elephant bathing pools.

Culture and History

In the centre of Muara Tebo is the Taman Makam Pahlawan Sulthan Thaha Syaifuddin heroes’ cemetery. It has historical, heroic and educational value. In Teluk Kuali, the old Makam Syekh Ahmad cemetery complex contains gravestones made of petrified Sungkai wood. A Buddha statue was found at Candi Teluk Kuali; it is now in the Siginjai Museum in Jambi Province.

Tebo Regency’s cultural heritage includes traditional dances and folk tales, including Tari Tauh, Tari Puteri Dayang Ayu, Tari Kelik Elang, Tari Selendang Putri and Tari Luka Gilo. Batik and songket weaving are considered longstanding traditions; local workshops create textiles featuring distinctive Tebo motifs. Desa Wisata Negeri Pemuncak Teluk Kuali in Tebo Ulu is designated as a cultural tourism village. Traditional palm sap tapping, known as NYADAP NIRO TRADISIONAL, is also presented as a cultural attraction in Teluk Kuali.

Choose Accommodation That Suits Your Destinations

When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to first decide which specific places you want to visit. The described journeys to Air Terjun Gajah Mati and Goa Harimau or Goa Kelelawar include sections by trail motorcycle and on foot. Factor these requirements into your plans rather than assuming that all the attractions can be reached as one shared route or from a single base.
