At low tide, seaweed farmers can be seen planting, tending and harvesting seaweed along the Ceningan Strait. Along with beaches and mangroves, seaweed farming is one of the defining experiences on Nusa Lembongan. The island is part of the Nusa Islands travel region, southeast of Bali, beyond the Badung Strait.

Seaweed farming along the Ceningan Strait

The work that follows the rhythm of the tides can be experienced not only as a landscape, but also as part of a visit to Desa Lembongan: seaweed farming is included in village tours for guests on day cruises to Nusa Lembongan and is presented as a tourist attraction. Visitors can meet seaweed farmers directly; the nature of the encounter may vary. If you are planning a tour like this, check the current offerings in advance.

Mangroves, canoeing and snorkeling

Mangrove Lembongan is a 5.6-hectare core zone within the Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area. If you are using this protected-area status to plan your visit, check the current zoning. In the north of the island, Mangrove Point is located by a mangrove forest with very clear seawater. Visitors can explore the Mangrove Forest on Nusa Lembongan by canoe, steered by a local boat operator.

Snorkeling is another possible activity: Nusa Lembongan has spots considered suitable for beginners, though conditions vary by location. While snorkeling, you may see clownfish, turtles and manta rays, but sightings are not guaranteed. Swimming with manta rays is possible at Manta Bay, though an encounter is not guaranteed there either.

Beaches and coastal spots

Dream Beach combines white sand with waves from the Indian Ocean. Swimming is possible there, but sea conditions can vary. Devil’s Tears offers a different coastal scene: a black cliff there meets the Indian Ocean directly. Jungutbatu Beach offers views of the sunset.

The Yellow Bridge makes it easier to cross from Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan and is also a photo spot. You can combine a bridge crossing with a visit to one of the island’s destinations, without tying it to a specific itinerary or schedule.

Culture and getting your bearings on the island

The Gala-Gala Underground House is a limestone house on Nusa Lembongan and offers a different focus from beaches and mangroves. Panorama Point is in Jungutbatu Village, near the local harbor; the route there passes through hilly terrain. These details can help you organize the different themes of your island plans.

Getting there, fees and finding accommodation

Fast boats from Sanur Harbor reach Mushroom Bay and provide access to Nusa Lembongan. Check the current departure times for your trip. Since September 1, 2026, foreign visitors to the Nusa Lembongan tourism area have paid IDR 25,000 for adults and IDR 15,000 for children. Fees and collection procedures may change, so check both before your trip.

When looking for accommodation on Lembongan, you can start by deciding what matters most to you: the beach and swimming, exploring the mangroves by canoe, or experiencing seaweed farming and meeting local growers. Use your priorities to guide the rest of your search.
