Discoveries in Buleleng range from calm waters and dark sand to lontar literature, historic residences and local collections. Two perspectives sit side by side: the coast and cultural history. Plan your trip around what you want to explore—water activities, writing, crafts or historic sites.
Coast and Water
Lovina is a tourist beach area with calm waters. Its coastal landscape features dark sand with white grains, coral and tropical fish. The water is suitable for swimming, snorkeling and fishing, as well as trips in traditional boats. Lovina is also the natural habitat of dolphins, which can be spotted there in the morning.
Pantai Penimbangan offers a different side of the coast. It is a tourist destination on Jalan Pura Segara Penimbangan in Desa Baktiseraga, Kecamatan Buleleng. The beach is used for recreation, particularly by young people from the surrounding area. Beach stalls serve local foods such as ketupat, blayag, grilled corn and toast, as well as drinks. The offerings at individual stalls and prices may change.
Collections, Writing and Textile Traditions
The Buleleng Museum was founded on March 30, 2002, and is located in Kecamatan Buleleng. Its archaeological collections include sarcophagi, statues and weapons. The museum also presents art and objects related to life in North Bali: paintings, textiles, gold and silver crafts, and tools used in agriculture and fishing. Its collections thus range from archaeological objects to items related to crafts and various fields of work.
Gedong Kirtya focuses on literature. The special library is dedicated to classical Balinese, Old Javanese and Sasak works written on lontar leaves. This brings the literary traditions and their writing medium into focus together. Gedong Kirtya can be reached by public transport; check current services when planning your specific journey.
Songket Beratan also offers a textile perspective on cultural history. This distinctive songket fabric from North Bali comes from Desa Beratan (Kecamatan Buleleng, Singaraja). Its origins root this craft tradition in a specifically named place.
Historic Sites and City Life
Tugu Singa Ambara Raja is a historic and cultural attraction in Kelurahan Paket Agung, Kecamatan Buleleng. As a landmark of Buleleng city, the monument is often used by visitors as a photo spot. In this way, it serves both as a point of reference and as a popular place to capture a visit in photographs.
Puri Kanginan is a historic remnant of the Kingdom of Buleleng. In its historical period, it served as a residence for an aristocratic family and as a government center. These two former functions give the site both a social and a political dimension.
Puri Agung Singaraja, also known as Puri Gede Buleleng, is among Buleleng’s tourist palace attractions and is located on Jalan Mayor Metra in Singaraja. Eks Pelabuhan Buleleng has a different historical connection: the former harbor district is now an urban tourist area and a popular place to spend time in Singaraja. Its former character as a port and its current use exist side by side.
