Kemenesmagasi offers several distinct starting points for a culture-focused trip: two churches with their own architectural and furnishing histories, the Berzsenyi family crypt, a local musical ensemble, and the Stüszi Shooting Range, which requires advance booking. These details can help you choose what to focus on: architecture and historical remembrance can be explored through specific features, while the shooting range should only be included in your plans after booking in advance.

Churches with Distinct Architectural Histories

The Roman Catholic Jézus Szíve Church dates back to the 15th century and was redesigned in the Neo-Gothic style around the turn of the 20th century. This sequence in time combines medieval origins with a later stylistic transformation. Inside, a wooden gallery on cast-iron columns stands on one side; on the other, a pulpit is connected to the altar. The main altarpiece depicts Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. The gallery, pulpit and altarpiece are specific architectural and artistic details that shape the character of the church interior.

The Lutheran church retains interior furnishings dating from 1903. These include a pulpit-altar ensemble with Hungarian motifs, a copper crucifix, candlesticks, a decorative Bible, a gallery on iron columns, pews, an organ and an altarpiece. A marble plaque in the nave commemorates 41 Lutheran soldiers who fell in the First World War. The furnishings and memorial form a distinct focus here. By contrast, the Jézus Szíve Church is distinguished by its 15th-century origins and Neo-Gothic redesign—two different historical perspectives on the churches of Kemenesmagasi.

The Berzsenyi Crypt and Remembrance

The Berzsenyi family crypt is located in the cemetery on the outskirts of Kemenesmagasi. Dr. Dezső Berzsenyi began its construction in 1906; after it was completed, Lénárd Berzsenyi, a Honvéd colonel from 1848, was interred there posthumously. The Berzsenyi Crypt in the local cemetery has protected status under MK 2007/173. Its construction, later burial and protected status are specific points of reference for understanding the site’s history.

An artistic activity is also associated with Lénárd Berzsenyi: while imprisoned in the fortress of Olomouc, he made portraits of 132 fellow prisoners, as well as one of himself. The portraits add a specific activity to his biography, while the crypt focuses on the history of its construction and burials. This makes it possible to distinguish two different aspects of the Berzsenyi legacy without attributing the portraits to the crypt.

Music and Local Club Life

Another cultural facet is the Kemenesmagasi Citerazenekar és Népdalkör Hagyományőrző Egyesület, an association from Kemenesmagasi. The ensemble received the Aranypáva Nagydíj (Golden Peacock Grand Prize) in a KÓTA qualification. This adds a musical dimension to the architectural and historical themes: it is represented by a specific association and award, rather than by another architectural history.

Planning a Visit to the Stüszi Shooting Range

The Kemenesmagasi Koronglövő Lőtér clay pigeon shooting range was completed in 2006. After renovations and expansion by Magasi Tölgy Kft., it reopened in April 2014 under the name Stüszi Lőtér. It is equipped for events for groups of friends and for competitions. Visits are only possible at times booked in advance; you must always make arrangements by phone. Call before you travel to request your preferred time and confirm the current arrangements. Unlike the church and remembrance-related sites, advance booking is an explicit part of planning a visit here. If the range is important to you, plan the rest of your trip around your booked time.
