Csobánka has two distinctive sides: streams with diverse habitats and five hiking trails that differ in length, starting point and elevation figures. By comparing the trails, you can distinguish circular routes from longer routes starting in Margitliget. Distances, elevation figures and information boards make the differences clear.

Streams and Wildlife

The Dera Stream and its tributary, the Kovácsi Stream, wind for more than 2.5 kilometres through Csobánka, creating diverse habitats. Protected fish species, white-clawed crayfish, dragonflies and numerous bird species live along the two waterways—even in the built-up area. The stream landscape is therefore not just something to explore outside the village: its habitats extend into built-up areas.

Serbian Orthodox Baroque Church

The Serbian Orthodox church of Csobánka stands at 4 Hősök Square. It is a Baroque church dating from 1746 and is protected as a national monument. Csobánka thus brings together different interests: exploring the stream landscape, hiking and visiting a protected building with a long history. The church’s address helps pinpoint its exact location.

Hiking Trails by Length and Starting Point

Two circular trails start at Oszoly Rest Area and return there, but their distances differ. At 2.25 kilometres, the Oszoly Trail is the shortest of the five routes; it passes nine information boards and has an elevation difference of 60 metres. The Mackó Cave Trail is 3.9 kilometres long, passes ten information boards and has an elevation difference of 210 metres. Although they share the same starting and finishing point, the two loops differ considerably in length and elevation.

The Szent-kúti Trail is a six-kilometre circular route. It starts at the “Csobánkai templomok” information board in front of the Serbian church and returns there. There are six information boards along the way, and the elevation difference is 220 metres. Its location and length distinguish this loop from the shorter circuits at Oszoly Rest Area.

Two more trails start in Margitliget and finish at an information board related to the church. The Fehér sziklák Trail is seven kilometres long and ends at the “Csobánka templomai” information board. It passes 21 information boards and four viewpoints; the total ascent is listed as 300 metres and the descent as 210 metres. The Erdőszéli Trail runs from Margitliget to the “Csobánkai templomok” information board. It is 5.5 kilometres long and includes 17 information boards, 140 metres of ascent and 53 metres of descent.

For a comparison of routes starting in Margitliget, the Erdőszéli Trail is the shorter option: it is 1.5 kilometres shorter than the Fehér sziklák Trail, and its listed ascent and descent figures are also lower. The Fehér sziklák Trail’s four viewpoints and 21 information boards set it apart, while the Erdőszéli Trail is listed as having 17 information boards. These figures help distinguish the route profiles without combining length and elevation figures into an overall assessment of difficulty.

Starting Point at Oszoly Rest Area

Oszoly Rest Area is the starting point for the shorter circular trails and can be reached by car from Fő Square in Csobánka. This provides a specific reference point for the two loops that start and end there. When choosing between them, the main points of comparison are their listed lengths, elevation differences and number of information boards.
