Winegrowing, historic buildings and a cycling circuit through the town give Egerszólát several specific points of interest to consider when planning a trip. You can decide whether wine, architectural history or a ride on the Eger–Kékes-tető–Eger route is especially important for your stay.

Wine Landscape and Local Character

Egerszólát lies in the valley of the Szólát Stream. Numerous grape varieties grow on the slopes of the Szóláti-hegyek, across nearly 400 hectares. This places winegrowing within the town’s landscape: the vines grow on the hillsides, while the stream valley provides the geographical setting. Egerszóláti Olaszrizling remains a hallmark of the community. The wine is therefore not just a general travel topic, but has a specific connection to the town.

Gál Lajos’s winery also offers a specific connection to wine: it has a tasting room for 30 to 40 people. If you would like to plan a tasting, check availability in advance. The Aranytőke Borszemle is held every two years as an international-level wine competition; on average, winegrowing regions from five countries take part. Check the dates before your trip if you would like to attend the competition.

Manor Houses, a Castle and a Church

The historic buildings offer different points of interest. At the end of the “Pincesor,” which branches off Egri út, stands the Andreánszky Manor House, built in the early 19th century. On the main road is the classicist Szórát Manor House; its year of construction is unknown.

Brezovay Castle was built by Csenus Sándor in 1773. An original Baroque door and two rooms with distinctive barrel vaults have been preserved there. A barrel vault is a type of vault that extends lengthwise; in the castle, it is found in two rooms. The Roman Catholic Church of St. John of Nepomuk, which still stands today, is also part of the town’s architectural history. Its construction began in 1734 on the orders of István Farkas’s widow. Together, the different dates show that local architecture is not limited to a single period.

Cycling and the Wider Heves Region

The Eger–Kékes-tető–Eger cycling circuit passes through Egerszólát; the town is one of the settlements along the route. If you plan to include the circuit in your itinerary, check the road conditions before setting out. The cycling route adds a specific activity to the local wine and cultural themes without replacing their focus.

In the wider travel destination of Heves, the Hevesi Füves Puszták Landscape Protection Area lies in the southern part of Heves County. It covers 16,114 hectares, was designated in 1993, and reached its present extent after expansions in 2005 and 2008. Also within the wider travel destination of Heves, the 6.5 km Ilona Valley Nature Trail follows the Ilona Stream. Its themes are the geological features of the Eastern Mátra Mountains and the traces of former ore mining. These regional examples offer a broader range of themes alongside Egerszólát’s stories of wine and architecture.
