Mikepércs offers several different themes to consider when planning a trip: a centrally located Reformed church, the designated Vándor-ló Route, natural sites, and insights into rural life. If you want to take both culture and landscape into account, you can give each of these highlights individual consideration. Visiting conditions vary depending on the place and the activity.

The Reformed church in the centre

The Mikepércsi Református Templom is centrally located in Mikepércs and is a Baroque, single-nave church. Its architectural features include a pyramidal, shingle-covered tower and entrance halls. The spire, with its four pinnacles, reflects the influence of the Reformed wooden churches of Transylvania. Construction of the stone church began in 1791; it has been protected as a national monument since 1958. Visits are possible by appointment. Please arrange the date and visiting arrangements in advance.

Trails and natural sites

The municipality of Mikepércs has designated the 12 km Vándor-ló Route for cycling and hiking. It passes open pastures as well as sections of mixed deciduous and coniferous forest. The distance and the two designated ways of getting around give you concrete points to consider when choosing between a hike and a bike ride.

Nyárfáshegyi-legelő is also among the area's natural attractions and is considered an area of high nature conservation importance. The Rákóczi Oak offers a different point of interest: its trunk circumference is 610 cm, and its age is estimated at around 300 years. The nearby surroundings also include the Földikutya Rezervátum, on the border between Mikepércs and Hajdúbagos. Check the applicable access requirements before visiting natural areas. For the route, it is advisable to check availability and condition in advance; the physical condition of a tree can also change.

Collections and animal care

The Kályhamúzeum focuses on cast iron and objects from rural life. Its collection is based on 70 individually decorated cast-iron stoves from the 19th century. Smaller cast-iron objects and tools complement the collection. This places large, decorated stove designs alongside objects and tools from everyday life in the past. Check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Mikepércsi Lovaspark offers day trips for schools and kindergartens. Children learn about caring for horses and goats; the trips also include visits to the animals' resting areas and the training grounds. This offers a different focus from the church, museum, and route: here, the emphasis is on an organised animal-care activity. As the activities may change, confirm availability before travelling.

A broader look at Hajdú-Bihar

In the wider destination of Hajdú-Bihar, the World Heritage site Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park – the Puszta offers a regional landscape perspective. It covers nearly 75,000 hectares in the Great Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. The cultural landscape preserves visible evidence of more than 2,000 years of traditional pastoralism. This broader perspective complements Mikepércs's local attractions with a distinct regional connection.
