A variety of trees and shrubs, a protected bee-eater colony, and granite formations offer different nature-themed experiences around Pákozd. The location is useful for planning your trip: the Pákozd-Sukoró Arboretum is known for its woody plant species, while the Pákozdi Ingókövek are granite formations north of the municipality. The colony is located outside Pákozd, in the direction of Sukoró. This gives you a choice of themes, from trees and shrubs and birdlife to rocky landscapes.

Tree and shrub species at the arboretum

The Pákozd-Sukoró Arboretum contains 111 tree and shrub species or their varieties. Of these, 62 species are native to the Carpathian Basin, while 49 are non-native and come from North America, Asia, and Southern Europe. In addition to the total, the breakdown by origin offers another way to view the collection: it distinguishes between native and non-native species and lists three regions of origin for the non-native species. If you are interested in the variety of trees and shrubs, you can consider the collection by both size and origin. The species counts reflect the current figures and may change.

A bee-eater colony in the direction of Sukoró

Outside Pákozd, in the direction of Sukoró, a protected bee-eater colony is located in a loess wall. Unlike the arboretum, the focus here is on an animal colony, its protected status, and its location.

Granite formations on Sárhegy

The Pákozdi Ingókövek lie north of the municipality in the Velence Hills. They include the granite formations Gyapjaszsák, Oroszlánszikla, Pandurkő, Pogánykő, and Kocka kő. North of Pákozd, granite rocks lie around the highest point of Sárhegy; different-sized groups of rocks are located to the east-southeast. The five names provide specific points of reference for individual formations, while the location on Sárhegy adds a broader sense of their setting. This lets you distinguish between named rocks and the wider granite landscape.

Trails through the Ingókövek area

The Országos Kék Túra and the Gránit Tanösvény pass through the Pákozdi Ingókövek area north of Pákozd. In the wider travel destination of Székesfehérvár, the rock formations can be reached from Pákozd via several hiking trails; these trails can also be used by bicycle. The geological nature trail, established in 1994, connects the rock formations. When choosing a route, you can therefore decide whether to follow the named routes, the hiking trails from Pákozd that are also suitable for cycling, or the geological nature trail.

Another nature experience in Székesfehérvár

The wider travel destination of Székesfehérvár offers another landscape perspective at Lake Velence. The reed beds along the lake provide a habitat for thousands of waterbirds. This means that, alongside trees and shrubs, the colony, and granite formations, reeds and bird habitats are also among the region’s nature themes. These differences can help you narrow down the focus of your trip: the arboretum’s species diversity, the named rock formations and their trails, or the lakeside habitat.
