Enying combines architectural history and places of remembrance with two very different activities: pottery and riding lessons. The churches and monuments span different periods and styles; the pottery workshop focuses on the steps involved in traditional craftsmanship. KabĂłka Lovastanya offers riding lessons. This lets you choose a focus for your stay instead of giving equal weight to every interest.

Churches and architectural history

The Nepomuki-Szent-JĂĄnos Church is a nationally protected Neoclassical monument dating from 1841. By contrast, the Reformed church and parsonage complex was built in the Baroque style between 1789 and 1792. The church and parsonage also contain a pulpit and pews from the late 18th century. This comparison provides a sense of chronology: the Neoclassical church represents a later building period than the Baroque complex. Visitors interested in cultural history can distinguish the buildings by their style and date of construction.

Enying’s freestanding Evangelical church was built in 1938 in the Neo-Romanesque style, to designs by BĂĄlint Szeghalmy. The inscription “ErƑs vĂĄr a mi IstenĂŒnk” appears above its entrance. Its architectural form, style and inscription offer further concrete details for anyone interested in local architectural history.

Monuments and places of remembrance

The monument to those who fell in the First World War is also known as the Árpåd statue. It stands in the park at Szabadsåg tér, opposite Enying Castle. The names of the dead are inscribed on black marble plaques on its octagonal base. The Turul statue stands beside the Reformed church. In the schoolyard of the Reformed school is the Tinódi-Lantos-Sebestyén memorial stone. Unveiled in 2006, it bears a relief portrait of Tinódi.

Rebeka’s grave is also a local memorial: the coffin-shaped stone tomb monument is in Enying’s Roman Catholic cemetery. It was restored in 2010, and an information board was installed beside it. Together, these monuments show different forms of remembrance, from names on marble plaques to a relief portrait and a stone tomb.

Pottery and riding lessons

The open pottery workshop Cserepes CsƱr in Enying gives visitors an insight into folk pottery. In the exhibition courtyard, they can see finished ceramics and watch steps such as throwing, decorating, glazing and firing. This offers a look at both the finished pieces and individual stages of their production.

KabĂłka Lovastanya offers riding lessons for everyone from beginners to advanced riders, on riding arenas that can be used year-round. Confirm that the program is available before you travel. The two activities also differ in terms of planning: at the pottery workshop, you can watch the craft processes; for riding lessons, you should check availability in advance. KabĂłka Lovastanya is about 15 minutes from the M7 motorway.

Seasonal events and planning your stay

Batthyåny-kastély is in the center of Enying and is now used for medical purposes. Therefore, do not count on being able to visit the inside of the castle during your stay. The surrounding Czifrakert park is one of the venues for summer outdoor events in Enying; dates vary. If an event is the reason for your trip, check the specific date in advance. This lets you weigh a date-dependent activity against the different architectural and cultural history topics when planning your stay.
