Discover Etyek through its diverse local history: Neoclassical architecture, historic cellars, religious heritage and a winemaking tradition dating back to Roman times. There is also a guided tour at Korda Film Park and insights into the production of various drinks and food products.

Cellars, Architecture and Local History

The historic Körpince cellar complex is considered Etyek’s most notable attraction. The cellars of Körpincesor are arranged in a ring around the edge of a hollow; the complex also includes a carriage entrance. Kecske-gödör has a different layout, with old cellars forming an L-shaped group. Those interested in local architectural history can see these different cellar designs firsthand. Magyar-kút is also worth a look: the building was constructed in the Neoclassical style in the first half of the 19th century.

Etyek’s winemaking tradition dates back to Roman times. Later traces of local history can be seen in the statues and the Calvary group. The statue of Saint Wendelin was placed at its present location in 1779, together with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. In 1825, the Calvary group, with fourteen Stations of the Cross, was created on the hill behind the two statues. The station images were painted on iron sheets.

The Tájház displays household items, traditional clothing, part of a formal reception room, and objects from religious life. As the collection may change, it is worth checking what is currently on display before visiting. The collection complements the buildings and monuments with insights into domestic life and religious traditions.

Film Production and a Look at How Things Are Made

The Korda Film Park visitor centre offers a guided tour lasting two to two and a half hours. Visitors learn about the main stages of film production. If you plan to take this tour, you must book in advance on the website. The tour gives your visit a clear theme and a specific duration.

The cellar areas of Körpince, Újhegy, Öreghegy and Kecskegödör are also part of Etyek’s visitor experience. Along with wine tastings, visitors can learn about making wine, syrup, beer and cheese. The offerings vary from one winery to another.

Wine, Sparkling Wine and Cider

Etyek sparkling wine is subject to specific requirements regarding origin and production: it may be made only from locally grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Gris grapes using the méthode traditionnelle, and must age in the bottle for at least 24 months. The designation therefore covers requirements for the grapes, the production method and the ageing period. It describes a distinctive part of the local winemaking tradition.

Cider is also part of the area’s food and drink scene: Etyek is one of Hungary’s best-known places of origin for high-quality cider, and its production is considered a growing tradition. Together with the long history of winemaking, this offers a glimpse beyond wine. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus mainly on historic cellars and buildings, the guided Film Park tour, or the different aspects of regional production.
