Three cultural themes shape the picture of Pusztaszabolcs: the Baroque organ in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Emeric, the Local History Collection, and the statue of Szabolcs Vezér with its associated memorial park. You can choose different focuses when planning your trip: music history, everyday objects and documents, or a named place of remembrance. The organ’s history offers the most detailed historical thread; the collection and memorial park each provide a distinct focus.

The organ at the Church of St. Emeric

The Baroque organ is located in the Church of St. Emeric. In 1941, it was brought to the newly built church in Pusztaszabolcs for 3,000 pengő. The date and purchase price place the instrument in a specific period of the church’s construction. Completed by 2004, the large two-manual organ is considered Hungary’s oldest and most completely preserved organ of its type. The faithful of Pusztaszabolcs preserved the instrument for future generations.

The organ’s use is also part of its history: it is played both during Mass and at organ concerts. If a concert is a deciding factor in your stay, check the dates in advance. This helps distinguish the organ’s remarkable history from the occasion of a specific concert.

Collection and memorial park

The Pusztaszabolcs Local History Collection includes old household objects, photographs, valuable documents, specialist books on local history, woven textiles, crocheted tablecloths and old furniture. Its range combines written and visual records with everyday objects and textiles. This gives the collection a different focus from the history of a single instrument: it contains many different types of objects.

The exhibition moved to its own building in 2014. This marked another stage in its exhibition history and added the development of the exhibition venue to its thematic range. If you would like to include the collection in your plans, check visiting arrangements in advance.

The statue of Szabolcs Vezér and its associated memorial park were inaugurated in Pusztaszabolcs on July 31, 2016. The statue and park are therefore linked to a joint inauguration event with a clearly specified date. Unlike the collection, which includes many different types of objects, the focus here is on remembrance. This makes the site a distinct cultural theme alongside the history of music and the collection.

Nature themes in the wider destination of Székesfehérvár

The wider destination of Székesfehérvár also offers nature-related attractions. The Pákozd Rocking Stones can be reached from Pákozd via several hiking trails, which can also be used for cycling. The geological educational trail, established in 1994, links the rock formations. This nature theme therefore focuses both on the different routes and on the geological classification of the rocks.

At Lake Velence, the reed beds provide a habitat for thousands of waterbirds. The two natural features are clearly distinct: the Pákozd Rocking Stones are about rock formations, trails and a geological educational trail; at Lake Velence, reeds and waterbirds define the landscape. This is a different focus for choosing your trip than the cultural history of Pusztaszabolcs: here, you can weigh up geological formations against a habitat for waterbirds.
