In Körösch (Kiskőrös), the attractions range from Petőfi history and architecture to technology, thermal pools, wine and cacti. Literature, vehicle and road-construction technology, bathing facilities and wine are clearly distinct highlights.
Petőfi: Birthplace, Exhibition and Translation
The Petőfi heritage combines architectural history with an exhibition about the poet’s life. Petőfi Sándor’s birthplace is a protected building in vernacular architecture dating from around 1790. The Petőfi Memorial Museum features a permanent exhibition about his life. The courtyard between the birthplace and the memorial museum is also home to the Műfordítói Szoborpark sculpture park, with portraits of translators of his works. This offers a perspective stretching from the historic building and biography to the translation of Petőfi’s texts. Visitors exploring the sites thematically encounter not only the poet’s life, but also how translators have passed on his works.
Vehicles and Road-Construction Technology
Technology enthusiasts can compare two different collections. The Old Car Museum displays vehicles on the ground floor and in the gallery; visitors can view them and use the interactive computer exhibits on the first floor. The open-air exhibition at the Úttörténeti Múzeum, by contrast, focuses on road construction: it displays road-construction machinery and equipment, as well as a bridge ensemble. It includes Central Europe’s largest collection of road rollers. The difference is in the focus: one features vehicles on display and interactive exhibits, while the other presents machinery, equipment and an ensemble related to road construction.
Thermal Pools and Sports
The Kiskőrösi Rónaszéki Fürdő offers two different types of pools. Outdoors, there are two cold-water pools; in addition, there are two covered, open-sided thermal pools arranged as a pair and equipped with a whirlpool bath. These details clearly distinguish the outdoor pools from the thermal pools. Those interested in sports as well as swimming will find facilities for beach soccer, beach volleyball and tennis at the baths. Swimming and sports are therefore separate highlights to consider when planning your time here.
Wine and Cacti
The Borok Háza offers wine tastings featuring local winemakers and wineries, as well as an exhibition about historic and modern winemaking equipment. Wine tasting and the history of winemaking come together here. Check whether tastings are currently available before making plans. The Kaktuszmúzeum has a very different focus: its collection includes more than 3,000 cactus species. Winemaking and the cactus collection thus add two more distinct areas of interest to the cultural and historical and technological themes.
More Cultural Attractions in Bács-Kiskun
Beyond Körösch, Bács-Kiskun has other distinctive cultural attractions. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification and the way of life of people during the Bronze Age. A reconstruction of an Árpád-era village depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. In Kiskunhalas, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum, view lacework dating back centuries and see the lace-embroidery process. These examples broaden the picture of Bács-Kiskun beyond Körösch’s literary and technological highlights.
