Walks and coastal destinations nearby

The walk from Kings Mills to Le Grantez Mill follows La Rocquesse, which branches off from La Sauvarinerie. Le Grantez Mill offers views towards Vazon Bay and is considered an ideal spot for a picnic. This walk combines a named route with a scenic destination and a picnic idea.

Vazon Bay has a large sandy beach and is suitable for surfing, kite flying and bodyboarding. Unlike the mill walk, the focus here is on the beach and watersports.

Fort Hommet is a popular place for walking and birdwatching. The Saumarez Nature Trail leads from Cobo Bay to Saumarez Park and back. The difference between these walking destinations is clear: Fort Hommet combines walking with birdwatching, while the Nature Trail is defined by its out-and-back route and its two endpoints.

Beach types on Guernsey

Guernsey has a variety of beach types. Cobo Bay is a white-sand beach, while Rocquaine Bay is a pebble beach. Fermain Bay is a pebble cove on the rugged east coast. Saints Bay is a sandy cove with a pebble bank at the top of the beach and protective cliffs all around. You can choose between sand, pebbles, or a combination of a cove, pebble bank and cliffs. Ladies Bay is on Guernsey’s north-eastern corner, beside L’Ancresse Common, and is a family-friendly beach.

Culture and swimming on Guernsey

Castle Cornet houses the Story of Castle Cornet, the 201 Squadron (RAF) Museum, the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry Museum and the Royal Guernsey Militia Museum. The grounds include self-guided trails for children and a dress-up area. Families travelling with children can consider these two activities as a focus alongside the museums. Castle Cornet is only a short walk from the centre of St Peter Port and offers panoramic views of St Peter Port and the neighbouring islands.

Swimming spots on Guernsey include Port Soif and the Lihou Venus Pool. The Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette is a purpose-built, U-shaped swimming pool with access for swimming in the sheltered bay. This gives you two named swimming spots as well as a purpose-built pool with access to a sheltered bay.
