Le Gosier has a variety of highlights: the Sentier ornithologique du littoral de Saint-Félix runs through coastal landscapes, Plage de la Datcha is in the town centre, and the Aquarium de la Guadeloupe showcases Caribbean marine ecosystems. There are also boat trips and Creole market fare. Nature, beach, marine life and local cuisine each offer a different experience.

Coastal trail and marine life

The Sentier ornithologique du littoral de Saint-Félix is a coastal walking trail about 2.5 kilometres long. It passes through pastureland, along beaches and through wetlands such as salt marshes and mangroves. Joggers also use the trail; along the way, you can observe marine erosion and ongoing urbanisation. The coast is therefore not just a landscape, but also a place where changes are visible.

During a guided visit in 2025, participants observed frigatebirds over the sea, yellow warblers in dry and swampy forests, and herons and wading birds in salt marshes and mangroves. These observations relate to that visit. They describe a specific encounter with the habitats along the trail, not a guarantee of what you will see on future visits.

There are different ways to experience the area from the water, too: organised catamaran trips depart from the marina, where you can explore nearby lagoons or view the seabed. Operators and schedules may vary, so check the details of your chosen trip in advance. At the Aquarium de la Guadeloupe, by contrast, the focus is on an interactive experience across more than 50 tanks. The aquarium showcases a range of Caribbean marine ecosystems.

Beach and ĂŽlet du Gosier

ĂŽlet du Gosier is a small island off the coast and a coral islet about one kilometre wide. Once home to pelicans, it is now part of a protected natural area managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Its underwater trail lets you explore the coral reef. The island, protected area and reef offer a different experience from observing wildlife along the coastal trail.

Plage de la Datcha is in the centre of Le Gosier and overlooks ĂŽlet du Gosier. Swimming and watching the sunset are among the possible beach activities here. Datcha is lit until 11 pm. As the lighting arrangements may change, check the latest information if an evening visit is important to you.

Plage de l’Anse Tabarin is also in the town centre, close to Datcha. It has a tree-lined green space with shaded spots, gazebos and benches, as well as a municipal watersports centre and the landing stage for Îlet du Gosier. If you plan to use any of these facilities, check the current conditions in advance.

Market, walk and history

Marché nocturne du Gosier is known for local produce, flavoured rum and grilled dishes. On Friday evenings, the market also features Creole music and a festive atmosphere. Check the current event schedule before your visit. This makes the market a distinct culinary highlight, separate from a beach or nature experience.

At Pointe de la Verdure, a coastal path runs between hotels, a casino and secluded little coves. It is suitable for a late-afternoon stroll. At the end of Plage de Saint-Félix, a stele bears a message about the abolition of slavery in Creole, French and English. It commemorates the first abolition in 1794 and Napoleon’s reintroduction of slavery in 1802.
