The sheltered bay at Lance Aux Epines Beach is suitable for swimming; the beach has white sand. Another local option is the West Indies Beer Company: it serves several of its beers on tap and offers tasting flights. Check the brewery’s current schedule before visiting. This gives you a choice between a beach visit and a standalone tasting experience as different ways to spend your time.

St George: History and Architecture

In the wider destination of St George, the museum and historic buildings offer an introduction to Grenada’s history. The Grenada National Museum is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history and culture of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. It is located in one of Grenada’s oldest buildings, in downtown St. George’s. The city’s historic architecture also tells the story of its past: most of it dates from the 19th century, and buildings along the Carenage are examples.

Fort Matthew was built from 1784 to 1790. Among the largely preserved structures are 18th-century bathrooms, army kitchens, and cell blocks. Visitors can walk through the preserved tunnel system; check current access arrangements on site. Fort Frederick is one of the best-preserved bastions in the Caribbean and overlooks the harbor of St. George’s. From there, panoramic views extend from the nearby Carenage and the Caribbean Sea to the forested ridges in the north.

St George: Coast, Nature, and Spices

The Underwater Sculpture Park is an underwater gallery and snorkeling area in the Molinere Beauséjour Marine Protected Area. As an artificial reef, it attracts marine life. The Coral Carnival installation comprises 25 large-scale works featuring masked figures from Spicemas, a carnival held every year in August. Underwater art, the function of an artificial reef, and a connection to carnival tradition come together here.

In the wider destination of St George, Grand Anse Beach is two miles long, with white sand and calm turquoise water. It offers water sports as well as an arts and crafts and spice market. At Annandale Waterfalls, a 30-foot cascade is the centerpiece of a garden with colorful blooms and tropical vegetation. The pool beneath the falls is suitable for a gentle, relaxing swim alone or with family. Check current conditions before swimming. An interpretation center at the falls explores the surrounding ecosystem.

The De La Grenade Nutmeg Garden introduces visitors to the historical, traditional, and medicinal uses of Grenada’s spices. A tour includes an aromatic walk as well as tastings of drink concentrates, syrups, jams, and La Grenade liqueur. Check current offerings in advance. The garden at The Tower Estate features collections of heliconias, bromeliads, and ginger lilies. The Tower also offers afternoon teas, estate lunches, and culinary safaris; confirm current booking details in advance.
