Northwest of the village, the hill of TrĂkorfo lies beside the Evinos; the village is named after it. The river crosses the area through narrow passages. Alongside these landscape features, forest trails for mountain biking, archaeological finds and churches with historical dates shape the character of the place. If you are weighing nature, activity and local history when choosing a destination, Trikorfo offers different ways to experience them.

Former trades and archaeological finds

There were five grain mills in the Trikorfo area, a water-powered sawmill at the site known as “Prioni,” olive mills, a brickworks, and charcoal and lime kilns. The former range of trades thus combined grain and oil processing, woodworking and the production of other goods. The mills, sawmill and kilns add economic activities—distinct from the churches and archaeological finds—to the history of the place.

During house construction in the central settlement, graves, ruins of ancient houses and mosaics were found. These discoveries are specifically tied to the place: they came to light during building work in the settlement. The range extends from graves and architectural remains to mosaics, adding archaeological traces to the history of the churches. This variety makes the finds especially interesting for travellers interested in the past.

Churches with different historical connections

In Kontara, the church of Ai Giorgi stands on the site of the former metochion of Agios Georgios (1819), belonging to the Monastery of Agios Dimitrios of Kryoneria (1805). The church was renovated around 1920 and rebuilt from the ground up in 1976. At Ai Giorgi, the former monastic connection and the different building phases take centre stage. Agia Paraskevi is the parish church of Trikorfo and dates from 1906. The two churches have different historical emphases: one has a named former site connection and building phases, while the other has a parish role and a construction date.

Mountain biking on forest trails

Trikorfo is suitable for mountain biking and has many well-marked unpaved trails through the forest. This brings the activity, trail surface and surroundings together in a specific way. This experience differs from the archaeological finds and churches, which mainly offer historical connections. If mountain biking is a major factor in your choice of destination, the marked forest trails provide a concrete point of reference.

The wider landscape

In the wider region, the Varasova mountain range to the west, together with the Evinos, forms a landscape of lush vegetation and rare birds. The Evinos has both a local and a regional connection: in Trikorfo it crosses the area through narrow passages; in the wider surroundings, it forms part of the landscape together with the Varasova mountain range. If you use landscape as a criterion for choosing a destination, this distinction helps you consider the village itself and the surrounding region separately.
