Pertouli offers several ways to shape your stay: village and church festivals, trails through the fir forest and the ski centre on the Pertouli Meadows. The trails lead to different destinations, including the Mana Gorge, Paliokopri and the plateau of the Pertouli Meadows. If you are looking for a hotel in Pertouli, first decide whether a festival, a hike or the ski centre will be the focus of your stay.

Village Festivals and Churches

The usual dates for the village festivals include the festival of Agia Kyriaki on 6 and 7 July, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ on 5 and 6 August, and the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary on 14 and 15 August. Festival events begin with a church service, where meat, pies and dairy products are served in particular. The festivities conclude with a celebration attended by local people and traditional folk music groups. The beekeeping festival at the Church of Agia Kyriaki is associated with the month of June. If you are planning your trip around a festival, check the specific event date.

The Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary stands at the entrance to Pertouli. It was built in the mid-20th century to a design by Dimitris Pikionis. Another historic chapel, Agia Kyriaki, lies on the “Crossing the Pindus I” route. This makes churches and trails distinct themes to consider when planning, without treating the routes as the same.

Hiking Trails with Different Destinations

Hiking trail 222 starts at Pertouli’s highest point, near Zacharaiika. Following a narrow, gently ascending path, it passes through dense fir forest and reaches the Mana Gorge in less than a kilometre. There, you can enjoy a beautiful view, watch birds and gather herbs. The short distance and gentle ascent provide useful details for planning; check local conditions before setting out.

Nearby, hiking trail 221 also starts at the highest point of the village, near Zacharaiika. It runs across the slopes of Neraida and through Pertouli Forest to Paliokopri. The “Crossing the Pindus I” route climbs to the plateau of the Pertouli Meadows and passes the historic chapel of Agia Kyriaki in Pertouli. The routes therefore offer different destinations to choose from: the gorge, Paliokopri or the plateau.

You can also explore nearby Koziakas by bike: visitors can ride along its winding paths and forest roads. These cycling options and the hiking trails described above offer different ways to explore the area.

Ski Centre and Landscape

The Pertouli Ski Centre is located on the Pertouli Meadows, among fir trees, and is considered suitable for both experienced and beginner skiers. It has three pistes: a 1,500-metre red run, a 400-metre blue run and an 80-metre green practice slope. The centre also has a 1,170-metre two-seat chairlift, a 350-metre drag lift and a 60-metre children’s conveyor belt. The lengths and types provide separate details about the pistes and lifts; check current operations before visiting.

The facilities and pistes lie on the gentle flysch slopes of the Pindus and on the alluvial deposits of the Pertouli Stream. The small white Chapel of the Holy Apostles also stands in the green landscape near Pertouli; in snowy weather, it is surrounded by snow.

The Pertouli University Forest lies in the wider landscape of the central Pindus region. It stretches from the western slopes of Koziakas to the northeastern slopes of Boudoura. Its elevation ranges from 1,150 to 2,060 metres, and it runs along the Trikala–Aspropotamos provincial road. This regional perspective complements the nearby hiking and cycling destinations with a sense of the broader extent of the mountain landscape.
