Kantia is a small seaside village between Drepano and Iria, about 17 kilometres from Nafplio. These nearby places provide geographical orientation: Drepano and Iria locate the village in its local surroundings, while the distance to Nafplio offers a further point of reference. When choosing somewhere to stay, Kantia can first be considered as a coastal destination; the beach and historical points of interest can then help you decide. The beach and the village’s history offer two different perspectives on the place.

A beach with both lively and peaceful stretches

Kantia’s beach is about four kilometres long. Its different aspects offer more than a measure of its size: a busy beach bar and quiet, almost private areas are two defining images of the beach. Family-friendly sections with sun loungers on sand and fine gravel add to the contrast. The length gives you a rough idea of the beach’s extent, while the different areas say more about its atmosphere and layout. So, if you are planning a stay by the sea, you can first consider which of these features matter to you when choosing a destination, rather than assuming the beach has a uniform character.

The beach is accessible by car from the surrounding areas, and free parking is available along the beach. As parking information can change, check local parking conditions before you travel.

Church, tower house and Mycenaean acropolis

On the west side of the Church of Agios Nikolaos, at the village entrance, the year 1381 is engraved above the entrance; the exact year the church was built is unknown. The inscription therefore provides a dated reference point, while the construction date remains unknown.

The ruins of the Mycenaean acropolis of Kándia lie on Agia Eleousa Hill, near the Aga Tower. The partly ruined Aga Tower is a tower house and was the residence of the local Aga. Their proximity connects these two points of interest when getting your bearings, but their significance differs: the acropolis is a Mycenaean ruin, while the tower was once a local residence.

The historical points of interest differ in the kind of information they convey: at Agios Nikolaos, the inscription bears a year, not the exact construction date; the Aga Tower is notable for its former function, while the acropolis is significant for its Mycenaean history. Here, inscriptions, former use and archaeological history offer different perspectives on the place.

Choosing accommodation in Kantia

You can then compare specific accommodation options against your own requirements. This makes it possible to assess Kantia as a destination with both coastal and cultural appeal, while the different stretches of beach also highlight the range of atmospheres on offer.
