For walks around Alexandros, you can choose between a route of about one hour, plus breaks, and a two-hour tour. There are also weaving classes in the old schoolhouse and the Church of Agios Dimitrios, with its icons. This lets you take the time required and your different interests into account when planning your trip.

Walking trails around the three villages

The “Three Villages” walking trail leads around the three villages of Alexandros. It runs mostly along quiet roads and unpaved paths; a short section of the Monopati climbs over rocky ground. The walk takes about one hour, with breaks to be added.

“Around Skaros Mountain” is a two-hour, moderate, self-guided walking trail around the three villages. The two time estimates provide different planning benchmarks: the first trail is listed as taking about an hour, plus breaks, while the second has a duration of two hours. The moderate difficulty rating applies to “Around Skaros Mountain.”

The “Three Villages” trail is marked with arrows on green circular markers. A section of the route through the trees shares its path with another trail, marked in red-orange on rocks. Trail conditions may vary, and markers may change. Check the route and its markings on site.

Weaving classes in the old schoolhouse

Weaving classes are held in Alexandros’s old schoolhouse. They last three hours and offer an introduction to weaving. This is considerably longer than the approximate duration of the shorter walking trail, which does not include breaks. If you would like to attend a class, check in advance whether one is offered on your preferred date and what the current participation arrangements are.

The Church of Agios Dimitrios and local history

The Church of Agios Dimitrios in Alexandros contains icons. If you would like to see them, ask locally whether a visit is possible and under what conditions. On the feast day of Agios Dimitrios, the church is filled with hundreds of people. If you would like to combine a visit with the feast day, check the date and access in advance.

A historical account links a cave between Nikiana and Alexandros to the year 325: three Holy Fathers founded the first Christian hermitage on Lefkada there. Alexandros was probably named after one of them. The cave lies between the two places and is therefore a separate point of interest in the surrounding area.

The village’s history is also linked to Skaros. Many years ago, the inhabitants of the village of Alexandros, located on Mount Skaros, moved to the coastal area of Nikiana for their livelihood and development. The local history thus connects the elevated location of Skaros with the coastal area of Nikiana, without specifying a particular year for the move.

Skaros Forest and views

The path through Skaros Forest runs just before the village. The forest has oak trees and rock formations, and views stretch to the Prigiponisia islets. The woodland therefore offers a scenic contrast to sections of the trail along quiet roads and unpaved ground. To help plan your trip, you can consider the specific local attractions—hiking, weaving, a church visit and scenery—alongside the time you would like to set aside.
