Nea Skioni lies on the southwest coast of Kassandra and retains the traditional character of a coastal village. A sandy beach about 1.5 kilometers long stretches in front of the village, lined by a picturesque fishing-boat harbor. The beach and harbor give the coast two distinct accents; there is also a village church associated with the relocation of the settlement, as well as historic sites in the surrounding area. When choosing accommodation in Nea Skioni, you can first consider whether time on the coast, village history, or both will shape your stay.

Beach and Coastal Life

The beach is less organized than some other beaches on Halkidiki, but it does have basic facilities: there are parasols and sun loungers, and the water remains shallow for several meters. The long sandy beach is also suitable for extended walks along the coast. If you enjoy combining beach time with walking, this offers a second distinct focus alongside time by the water.

The beach is awarded the Blue Flag every summer. If the current year’s award is important to you, check its status for the season in question. There is also a beach volleyball court on the beach; if you plan to use it, confirm its availability in advance. This lets you distinguish between a beach walk, swimming time and a possible sporting activity when planning, without assuming the conditions are the same for each.

Along the coast are tavernas and shops offering refreshments, snacks, fresh fish and seafood. This means the options described by the water include both brief stops and a meal with a coastal connection. Individual businesses and offerings may change; if a particular option is important to your plans, check for your travel dates.

Village History and Historic Sites

The Church of Saint Nicholas was built in 1924 during the village’s relocation from Tsapráni to Nea Skioni and retains its original marble iconostasis. The year it was built directly links the church to the move; the iconostasis adds a preserved feature of the building to this historical connection. This gives visitors interested in the village’s history both a specific date and an original element of the church’s furnishings to consider.

The coastal church of Panagia Faneromeni, about two kilometers from Nea Skioni, offers another historical connection. Its frescoes date from the 16th century. While the Church of Saint Nicholas is associated with the relocation of 1924, the frescoes turn attention to a much earlier period. Together, the two churches offer different points of reference for understanding the area’s history.

The archaeological site of Ancient Skioni is located on Mytikas between Nea Skioni and Agios Nikolaos. For a different perspective on the village, a route from Hanioti to the mainland of the peninsula passes a point from which hikers can see Nea Skioni. The route ends in Hanioti. These are therefore different kinds of outings: Ancient Skioni is a named archaeological site, while the route includes a viewpoint overlooking Nea Skioni.

Choosing Nea Skioni as Your Base

The beach and fishing-boat harbor define the village’s coastal character; the Church of Saint Nicholas adds a history directly connected to the relocation. Those wishing to include other historic sites will find further specific points of interest in Panagia Faneromeni and Ancient Skioni. This makes it possible to assess Nea Skioni as a coastal destination with a range of thematic points of interest, rather than basing the choice of location on a single feature of the beach alone.
