Kriopigi lies on the slope of a pine-covered hill overlooking the Gulf of Kassandra; in the village, a well that visitors can see points to the origin of the village’s name. There are also regional products, two types of beach and a longer walking route – a range of options to consider when planning your stay.
Hillside Setting and Well
The village lies amphitheatrically on the slope of a pine-covered hill and offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Kassandra. The Kriopigi well can be visited in the village. It has been there for decades, is considered a historical and cultural attraction, and gave Kriopigi its name. This makes it possible to trace the story behind the name to a specific spot in the village. If you would like to include local history as well as scenery, the well is a specific place to visit.
Regional Products and Taverns
The regional natural products visitors can enjoy in Kriopigi where they are made include honey, fruit, wine, olives and olive oil. This selection gives the village’s culinary offerings a tangible point of connection: it ranges from fruit and honey to olive products and wine. There are several traditional taverns around the main square where you can try ouzo. This traditional drink has a sweet aroma. The taverns offer a different focus from enjoying regional produce where it is made: here, the emphasis is on tasting a drink. If you are planning a tavern visit, check current availability beforehand.
Sandy or Pebble Beach
Location and shoreline are two practical differences to consider when choosing a beach. At the foot of Kriopigi is a pebble beach, which has been awarded two Blue Flags for the quality and cleanliness of its water. Kriopigi Beach, a sandy beach, is also close to the settlement and is known as a place for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. You can plan your beach day around these two features: pebbles at the foot of the village or a nearby sandy beach associated with these activities. If the Blue Flag affects your decision, check the award’s current status in advance.
Walking Route Towards Kassandrino
Another option is the longer Kriopigi–Kassandrino–Kriopigi walking route. It leads from Kriopigi along a road through a green forest to Kassandrino; its elevation is listed as 200 metres. The route therefore combines a section along a road with a green forest stretch. If you plan to take it, allow for a longer walk and check route conditions before setting out, as they may change. Unlike choosing a beach, this is about a longer route towards Kassandrino. It offers a distinct focus for a stay in Kriopigi, alongside the beach.
