On Ammoulliani, three aspects of planning can be considered separately: the ferry crossing, the stretches of Alykes Beach and a boat trip to explore the nearby Drenia Islets. They relate to different parts of a stay—the connection to the port, a beach day on the island and an excursion by rental boat. The landscape and local food culture provide further points of reference when choosing a destination. Comparing the options can help you consider your journey there and your excursions separately.

Plan the ferry crossing

A daily, frequent ferry connects the central settlement of Ammoulliani with the small port of TrypitĂ, outside Ouranoupoli. The crossing is two nautical miles long and takes less than 15 minutes. This time refers to the ferry crossing itself, not the entire journey; plan the remaining legs separately. The endpoints are useful for orientation: TrypitĂ is the port outside Ouranoupoli, and Ammoulliani is the central settlement on the other side of the route. Frequent service does not indicate a suitable departure time. As schedules can change, check the timetable for your travel date before setting off.

The island and Alykes Beach

Ammoulliani is a small island with low hills and a few olive trees. Alykes Beach lies in the southern part of the island and offers views of Sithonia. The landscape and the view provide two different points of reference when choosing a location: the island as a whole and a specific spot on the coast.

Alykes Beach has three sections equipped with sun umbrellas and loungers. Two of them have a beach bar; water sports are available in the middle section. The amenities are therefore distributed differently: beach bars are found in two sections, while water sports are available in the middle one. This distinction helps avoid attributing the same facilities to every section. As beach services can vary by season, check which options will be available on your visit.

Explore the Drenia Islets by boat

The Drenia Islets are near Ammoulliani, but they are not part of the settlement. You can explore the islets and their beaches by rental boat. This makes the excursion different from a beach day on Ammoulliani: the focus at Drenia is on separate islets and exploring by boat. The difference can help you choose an activity: spending time at a named beach or exploring nearby islets by boat. Drenia is therefore a distinct excursion option, not simply another section of Alykes.

A local tradition of sweets

Ammoulliani is also known for its handmade sweets, “amygdalota louλούdia” (“almond blossoms”). They are part of a longstanding local sweet-making tradition and add a culinary connection to the place alongside the landscape and beach. The name is specific, too: the translation “almond blossoms” makes the meaning clear. Travelers who consider local food culture as well as excursions when assessing destinations can take these sweets into account as part of the island’s character. Alongside the ferry connection, beach and boat trip, they offer another distinct facet of the island.
