Carrbridge offers a range of ways to spend your stay: a short stretch along the River Dulnain, paths through different woodland landscapes, Landmark Forest Adventure Park and golf. The listed Carrbridge Old Packhorse Bridge is also one of the village’s distinctive features. When planning, it is worth distinguishing activities by their character: a riverside path, a woodland walk and a day enjoying the attractions at a leisure park offer different experiences.

Bridge and path along the River Dulnain

Carrbridge Old Packhorse Bridge is listed as a Category B building. The Riverside Walk runs for one kilometre along the River Dulnain: it starts at Carrbridge Old Bridge in the village centre and heads upstream to Gurkha Bridge. This route gives you clear reference points for a short stretch along the river, including named start and end points. Carrbridge Old Packhorse Bridge and Carrbridge Old Bridge are used here as the respective names by which they are known; the Riverside Walk is described by its route along the River Dulnain.

Compare woodland paths and views

The Glencharnoch Loop includes pine forests as well as wooden sculptures and carved seating along the route. These details give this circular walk a different character from a path described primarily in terms of its woodland landscape. The Ellan Wood Circular passes through mixed woodland and wetlands. Those looking for a circular route through mature native Caledonian pine forest will find this type of landscape on the Carr Plantation Trail. The three routes therefore differ not only in name, but also in the woodland and landscape features described for each.

Another option is the out-and-back route to Calderwood Viewpoint. It leads from Carrbridge via the golf course and heathland, with views of the Cairngorms. This adds a route featuring heathland and a named viewpoint to the woodland walks. To choose between them, you can compare the landscapes described: pine forest and woodwork at Glencharnoch, woodland and wetlands at Ellan Wood, mature native pine forest at Carr Plantation, or the route across heathland to the viewpoint.

Leisure park and golf

Landmark Forest Adventure Park offers a butterfly house, the Wild Water Coasters, life-size dinosaurs, NetworX and the Red Squirrel Trail. This offers a different focus from the routes through woodland and heathland. Individual attractions may change seasonally, so check the current offerings before making firm plans for your visit.

Carrbridge Golf Club has a challenging 9-hole course. Streams and ditches serve as natural hazards on every hole. Visitors are welcome; the club recommends booking a tee time in advance, especially for larger groups. As visitor arrangements may change, check them before you travel.

Travelling by train

Carrbridge railway station is a ten-minute walk from the village centre and has a waiting room, a help point and a public address system. Station facilities and stopping patterns may change. If you are planning to travel by train, check the latest timetable and station information before your journey.
