Whitehills is on the coast of the Moray Firth in north-east Scotland. Its marina, coastal trails and maritime heritage offer different highlights for a stay.

Whitehills Marina

Whitehills Marina is owned by the village. Its pontoons have 40 equipped and seven unequipped berths. These operational figures may change; if availability is important to your plans, check the current status. Visitor berths are available in the outer basin at a 56-metre pontoon equipped with an access bridge, lighting, power connections and drinking water. Check the facilities before sailing.

Walks and coastal scenery

Whitehills Town Trail offers scenic walking opportunities. Scenic paths also run along the coastal foreshore towards Banff Links. After following a stretch of beach and a rocky coastline known for seabirds and seals, the Banff and Whitehills Circuit returns to Whitehills. The routes offer different kinds of walks: a trail connected with the village, walking paths towards Banff Links, and a route featuring a beach and rocky coastline. Check current path conditions before setting out, as route details may change.

Banff Links is nearby and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is also considered to be of particular importance to geologists. This adds a focus on nature and geology to the walking descriptions, without combining the different walking options into a single route.

Maritime history and local culture

Trinity Church displays a handbell dated 1727 and inscribed “The Town of Whitehills”, along with a plaque dated 1860. The plaque commemorates the establishment of a lifeboat in Whitehills. In addition, the local lifeboat station was moved to Whitehills in 1923. These dates point to different aspects of the village’s maritime history.

Whitehills Parish Church also has a distinctive history: it was rebuilt stone by stone from nearby Banff. Whitehills is also home to the Whitehills Harbour Heritage Centre. If you plan to visit, check the opening hours beforehand. Nearby Boyndie is a former RAF airfield that played an important role during the Second World War.
