Inchmarlo offers several distinct points of interest for a trip: the history of Inchmarlo House, walking trails around the Inchmarlo Estate, and golf, as well as practical courses in patisserie and chocolate making. These themes can be considered separately when planning your trip. For a culture-focused stay, the manor house provides a specific architectural point of interest; golf and the courses at Inchmarlo Golf Centre offer further thematic options. You can first decide which theme you want to shape your trip and whether Inchmarlo suits your interests.

Manor House and Building History

Inchmarlo House is a Category B listed building. It was built in the mid-18th century as a two-storey classical manor house. A third storey and a balustrade parapet were added in the mid-19th century. Its architectural development can therefore be understood in two stages: the construction of the two-storey house and its later extension, including the parapet. Those interested in architecture can gain a specific insight into the development of a single building. Its Category B listing adds its listed status to the building’s architectural significance.

Trees, Gardens and Walking Trails

The Inchmarlo Estate also has distinctive features beyond its architecture. The Tree Register lists 40 notable trees, including 16 so-called “Champion Trees”. The estate also has five special gardens with seating areas. Red squirrels are also among its wildlife. Trees, gardens and wildlife thus provide a different focus from the manor house’s architectural history.

The “Walks Around Inchmarlo Estate” brochure describes five walking routes around the estate; some can be combined into longer outings. This gives you the choice between following a single walking route and potentially combining several routes into a longer outing. The brochure therefore describes not only individual routes but also notes the possibility of combining certain walks.

Golf and Patisserie

Inchmarlo Golf Centre has a 9-hole golf course and welcomes members and non-members throughout the year. The 9-hole detail makes the course format specific; the invitation expressly applies to both groups and lasts all year. Golf enthusiasts can therefore consider this as a distinct part of their trip planning.

The Pastry Academy is also located at Inchmarlo Golf Centre. It offers practical courses in modern patisserie and chocolate making. Different interests therefore come together at the same centre: golf on the course and hands-on work with patisserie and chocolate. This comparison may help you choose what interests you about the trip, without requiring both offerings to have the same audience or focus.

Getting Around Locally

For Inchmarlo Retirement Village, the Banchory A2B demand-responsive bus service, operated by Aberdeenshire Council, provides bookable door-to-door transport. The vehicles have low floors and are wheelchair accessible. The journey must be booked; check the operating details again before your trip. If this service is relevant to your stay, planning therefore includes both booking in advance and checking the service information.
