In Wroxham, reasons to visit range from a nostalgic steam journey to Aylsham and the Bure Valley Path to model worlds and church architecture. Wroxham Island also has two 24-hour moorings. The town can therefore appeal to different interests: railways, outdoor activity, miniature worlds, architectural history or the water.

Steam Railway and Bure Valley Path

Wroxham Station is the southern terminus of the Bure Valley Railway; the nostalgic steam journey to Aylsham starts here. The Bure Valley Path runs between Aylsham and Wroxham, is nine miles long and is a mostly traffic-free route for walking and cycling. Both attractions connect the same places but offer different experiences: a steam train ride on the one hand, and a route for walking or cycling on the other. The Path connects to Marriott’s Way, making it possible to extend a cycling trip. You can therefore decide whether to focus on a nostalgic train journey or a route for walking and cycling.

Model Railways and Miniature Worlds

Wroxham Miniature Worlds offers a different focus. This fully indoor attraction covers 10,000 square feet and features model railways as well as a one-mile, scale-model route through Mini Japan. The “Great Britain” display adds more than 500 square feet of OO-gauge model scenery. A named miniature route and a model landscape thus offer different perspectives within the same theme. If you are particularly interested in model railways, you can choose between a long route through Mini Japan and the Great Britain landscape in OO gauge.

Church Architecture in Wroxham

The architecture of the Church of St Mary can be understood through its specific features and different periods. Most of the building dates from the 15th century, while the nave retains remains from the 12th century. The Norman south doorway is particularly impressive. The contrast between the predominant building fabric and the older parts of the nave brings the church’s different historical layers to life; the doorway adds a distinctive architectural feature. The church therefore offers a different focus from the model worlds: here, the interest lies in surviving building fabric and a particular architectural element.

Water and River Trips

There are two different options for making water a focus of your visit. Wroxham Island has two 24-hour Broads Authority moorings. Broads Tours offers river trips on the Norfolk Broads with live commentary, light refreshments and a licensed bar. The island’s moorings and a narrated river trip with onboard amenities are therefore two different ways to include water in your travel plans.
