The annual Meiler Festival keeps Bermbach’s charcoal-burning tradition alive. The local history room offers another perspective on the village’s history: it is housed in a building that once held the village school on the ground floor and the church on the upper floor. In this way, a recurring festival and a building with two former uses each offer a different glimpse into Bermbach’s history.

Outdoor Pool and KnĂĽllfeld

The small outdoor pool is on the edge of the Bermbach district. Facilities include a non-swimmer pool, a swimming pool and a sunbathing lawn. Check the pool’s current opening hours before visiting.

The KnĂĽllfeld ski and hiking area near Bermbach offers a different kind of activity. There is a ski lift there. When planning your visit, it is worth checking in advance whether the lift will be operating on your chosen date. The outdoor pool and KnĂĽllfeld therefore offer different activities: time by the water or time in a ski and hiking area.

More places to visit in the broader Steinbach-Hallenberg destination

In the broader Steinbach-Hallenberg destination, the Metalworking Museum focuses on historic craftwork. Visitors can tour workshops preserved in their original state and see how people worked in the past. The museum has three historic workshops: a nail smithy, a corkscrew workshop and a file-forging workshop. From April to October, blacksmithing demonstrations take place there on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check the dates before setting out.

The permanent exhibition “Ons Schdaaimicher” offers another perspective. It opened in January 2022 and provides insights into the way of life, language development and community life of the people of Steinbach-Hallenberg. While the workshops showcase different historic trades, the exhibition focuses on life in Steinbach-Hallenberg.

Hallenburg Castle was built around 1212 on older foundations. A walk uphill offers views over the town and the surrounding mountains. To access the tower, you may need to collect the key from the tourist information office. It is centrally located in the town centre, directly opposite the Metalworking Museum. The Burgfest, a major town festival in honour of Hallenburg Castle, is held every five years.

Nature destinations are also part of the broader Steinbach-Hallenberg destination. At the Unterlautenberg wildlife park in the Unterschönau district, you can see red deer, fallow deer, mouflons and goats. A circular trail about 3 km long runs along the enclosure. The trail combines wildlife watching with the opportunity for a walk; its length is given as around three kilometres.

During the summer holidays, horse-drawn carriage rides to KnĂĽllfeld and back to the town centre are regularly offered in cooperation with Fuhrbetrieb Falk Nattermann. During the ride, you can enjoy views down into the valley and of the surrounding mountains. Dates are published in the events calendar. For longer stays, free parking is available on BismarckstraĂźe or on HennebergstraĂźe behind the town church.
