There are several ways to discover Gefell: historic sites in the townscape, recurring events, and activities in the water or outdoors. When choosing your destination, you can consider whether a particular event, the outdoor pool, or a cycling and hiking trip should shape your stay.
Townscape and town park
A protected oak tree over 100 years old stands in Gefell’s market square. The “Sankt Trinitatis” cemetery chapel also shapes the townscape. Another historic landmark is the “Tanzlindengruppe” in the garden of former town archivist Mr. Werner Rauh V. These three distinct points of interest give Gefell a historic character that becomes clear as you explore the town.
The town park is a place to relax and unwind and has developed into a special little gem in recent years. It offers a different focus from the historic sights: here, time spent among greenery takes center stage, while the oak, the chapel, and the Tanzlindengruppe make the town’s history visible.
Events in Gefell
The Town and Rose Festival has been held annually again in Gefell’s town park since 2014. The tractor gathering is also an annual event in Gefell. If you would like to plan your stay around one of the festivals, check the specific event dates in advance. The fact that an event is held annually does not, by itself, tell you the date of a particular visit.
Gefell outdoor pool
The outdoor pool has a 50-metre competition and swimming pool with a 2-metre diving board. The water facilities also include a 2-metre slide and a floating climbing rock with a slide. Here you’ll find a range of ways to spend time in the water, from swimming to the special slides and climbing features.
For the youngest visitors, there is a toddlers’ pool with a children’s slide; a range of swimming aids is also available for them. The outdoor pool also has a children’s playground and a sandbox with a sun sail. If you’re looking for activities beyond the water, you’ll also find a volleyball court and a table tennis table. These facilities give you specific options for tailoring your visit to the interests of your fellow travelers.
Swimming lessons are available at the outdoor pool upon request to the pool supervisor. You can also request a swimming proficiency level assessment or advice about water sports from the pool supervisor. These services are available by request to the pool supervisor.
Cycling and hiking
The “Around Gefell” cycling and hiking trail is signposted and can be accessed via Komoot and Outdooractive. This gives you a clearly named trail to help you find your way.
The forested area around Gefell, which offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling, is a separate attraction. The signposted trail is a specific route, while the description of the surrounding area covers a wider range of outdoor activities. You can choose between following a specific route and focusing more generally on hiking or cycling in the area.
This gives you several options for planning your trip: you can plan your stay around an event, explore the outdoor pool and its water and play facilities, or choose Gefell as a base for cycling and hiking. Which option takes center stage depends on your preferred travel dates and the specific activities you have in mind.
