With the historic park of Tremsbüttel Castle and the Tremsbüttel Loop, Tremsbüttel offers two different starting points for a trip. The park represents a designed cultural landscape, while the loop offers a specific hiking option.

Castle Park and Access

The historic park features formal vistas, a Japanese garden, and a small amphitheatre. The castle grounds are private and may not be entered without permission. If you would like to include the park in your plans, check access in advance.

Hiking in Tremsbüttel

The Tremsbüttel Loop is a circular hiking trail about 11 km long. Check the latest route information before setting out, as route details may change. The trail length provides a concrete measure for planning a day of hiking.

Stormarn at a Glance

Stormarn is in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, between Hamburg and Lübeck, and is well suited to day trips. Forests and moors define the landscape. Hiking options range from short circular trails to longer routes, including the Stormarn Trail and the Way of St. James. The routes pass through landscapes of fields, lakes, and rivers.

Culture and History in Stormarn

Stormarn also offers a range of cultural and historical highlights. Ahrensburg Castle was completed in 1585 and has served continuously as a museum since 1955. At Jersbek Estate, the 18th-century Baroque garden is open to visitors; the estate dates from the 16th century and has been in operation ever since. Reinbek Castle was built between 1572 and 1576 in the Dutch Renaissance style, extensively restored, and now serves as a cultural and communications centre. These examples offer different highlights: museum history, an accessible Baroque garden, and a building with a present-day cultural role.

Nature and Outdoor Activities in Stormarn

Hahnheide is Stormarn’s largest nature reserve and offers extensive hiking opportunities. Brenner Moor is Schleswig-Holstein’s largest inland salt marsh; it has a section on a wooden boardwalk and a trail with ten observation points. These areas offer different nature experiences: extensive hikes in Hahnheide and a moorland area with a trail leading to observation points in Brenner Moor.

Cycling and Regional Produce

For a change of pace, Stormarn offers more than 20 circular cycling routes, as well as BahnRadWege cycling routes along disused railway lines. The “Post Train Robbery on the State Railway Line” mystery trail combines a bike ride on BahnRadWeg B with a puzzle experience and a fictional investigation into a historical post train robbery. Farm shops and farm cafés in Stormarn offer regional foods and culinary products from the surrounding agricultural landscape. The fruit and tree trail starts at the old Blumendorf station near Bad Oldesloe. More than 160 tall fruit trees grow along the trail, bearing apples, pears, cherries, and plums; depending on the season, you can sample the different varieties.
