From Wassersleben beach, the view stretches across the Flensburg Fjord to Denmark; the Fjord Trail also begins at Schusterkate. The town is therefore a place both to spend time by the water and to set off on a longer tour. When choosing where to stay, first consider whether you want to focus on the beach and fjord views or on walking and cycling routes.

Beach and promenade

Wassersleben beach has a fine sandy shore about 600 metres long. During the bathing season, from 1 June to 15 September, the beach is supervised by the local DLRG branch. If supervision is important for your travel dates, check the seasonal information before setting off.

There is also a specific point of interest for pedestrians and cyclists: the first redeveloped section of the promenade creates more space for people on foot and by bike. This is the first completed phase of construction. The beach and the redeveloped section of promenade therefore offer different ways to enjoy the waterfront.

Duckdalbe, historic monument and another place to visit

The Duckdalbe on the fjord is a popular attraction and photo spot. It was designed by students from the Flensburg School of Applied Arts. Its well-known point of reference is therefore not only its location on the fjord, but also the work of its young designers.

Another cultural point of interest is Landhaus Wassersleben at Wassersleben 20. It is listed as a building complex in the Schleswig-Flensburg monument register. The entry, dated 1 February 2021, is marked as an earlier listing scheduled for an update. Architectural heritage and the beach thus add to the experiences that make Wassersleben a distinctive destination.

In Harrislee, a mini-golf course is located directly opposite the beach in Wassersleben. This is another specific place to visit that you can include in your plans alongside the beach and the fjord.

Walk the Fjord Trail or cycle the Baltic Sea Cycle Route

The Fjord Trail is 95 kilometres long on the German side and continues the Danish Gendarmstien. It runs from the Danish border to the Schlei; along the way, there are views of the fjord as well as natural and semi-natural areas. Schusterkate in Wassersleben can serve as a starting point. The trail’s length and endpoints make it a different kind of trip from a stay focused mainly on the beach and the town.

For a specific walking option, you can park in Wassersleben, cross the border at Schusterkate, walk through the Krusau Tunnel Valley and follow the Gendarmstien. If you prefer to travel by bike, you can follow the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, which runs from Wassersleben to Kappeln. This gives you two clearly different route options: the long Fjord Trail on foot and the cycle route towards Kappeln.

Getting here and choosing where to stay

Wassersleben is easy to reach by bike or on bus routes 1 and 7. If you plan to travel by bus, check the route and current service before setting off, as bus routes and timetables may change.

Wassersleben offers specific points of interest, from the sandy beach with fjord views to the routes at Schusterkate.
