Tolk brings together several points of interest: its location on the edge of a plateau, a church with fieldstone walls more than 800 years old, and Tolk-Schau, a family amusement park. There are also cycling routes that start in or pass through the village, as well as local walking trails. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on local history, the park’s attractions or outdoor routes.

Landscape and watercourse

Tolk lies on the edge of a plateau surrounded by a former glacial valley. Another geographical feature is the course of the Wellspang-Au: it flows from nearby Langsee and reaches the Schlei as the Füsinger-Au. The plateau defines Tolk’s location, while the watercourse connects Langsee with the Schlei.

Church and local history

Tolk was first mentioned in a deed of donation issued by Bishop Waldemar in 1192. The Tolk Church reveals another layer of history: its fieldstone walls have stood for more than 800 years. Some stones bear pre-Christian symbols. These suggest that the church may stand on an older place of worship—a possible interpretation, not a certainty.

A village renewal program from 1985 is also part of the local history. Its aim was to preserve valuable buildings that help define Tolk’s character.

Tolk-Schau as a leisure attraction

Tolk-Schau is a family amusement park in Tolk. It offers more than 100 attractions and over 100 life-size prehistoric animals. There are also playgrounds, a park railway, picnic areas, a café and snack options; pets live throughout the park. The park therefore puts both animals and play and leisure attractions in the spotlight.

Cycling and walking

There are two different routes to consider for cycling trips. The approximately 30-kilometer KirchTörn starts at Tolk Church, where visitors can park their cars. As parking arrangements may change, check the parking situation before your visit. By contrast, the KreisbahnTörn passes through Tolk on its route between Taarstedt and Böklund.

Tolk also has local walking trails. At the regional level, the network of walking trails features standardized signs, overview maps and information boards. As trail markings may change over time, check the current signs on site before setting out.

Getting there and finding your way

Tolk is served by public transport, including several stops and a bus turning area near the former administration building. Individual services may change, so check the current timetables for your travel date if you plan to travel by bus.

The described road route to Tolk-Schau follows the A7, exit 5 Schleswig/Schuby. From there, continue for about 12 kilometers toward Kappeln. As road signs may change, it is worth checking the current directions before you set off. This lets you plan your arrival at the park separately from finding your way around the village.
