With a historic walking route, insights into trade and crafts, and trails through natural areas, Mittelangeln offers several ways to enjoy a short stay. Circular trails provide concrete guidance for planning, while the museum, church, and outdoor pool offer other points of interest. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether local history, walks, or swimming will shape your stay.

Circular Trails and Nature

The Historic Satrup Circular Route has eleven stops showcasing the history of Mittelangeln’s center. Allow about 45 minutes to walk the route. One possible starting point is the car park at ADS Kindergarten, Flensburgerstraße 6a. The approximate duration can help you fit the route into your day’s plans.

At Gehege Rehberg, you can choose between two circular trails: a shorter route of 1.6 kilometers and a longer one of 3.25 kilometers. There are also spacious walking paths for relaxing in nature. The longer loop includes outdoor fitness stations. If you would like to use them, check their availability in advance.

The routes are described in different ways to help you plan your trips: the Historic Satrup Circular Route has an approximate walking time, while Gehege Rehberg offers two route lengths. This lets you decide whether you prefer to plan your walks by time or by distance in kilometers.

Information boards along the route through Satrupholmer Moor introduce the moor’s flora and fauna. Hechtmoor covers 34 hectares and was designated a nature reserve in 1941. These two details offer different ways to learn about nature: through information about plants and animals, or through a moor’s size and conservation history.

Cultural History in Satrup

The Satruphuus Museum in Mittelangeln is housed in a former shop dating from 1846. Across three floors, it presents local topics relating to trade, crafts, and industry; the Redlefsen company; the railway stations in Satrup; and historic working practices. Its range of topics spans economic development and the ways people worked in the past.

The late Romanesque St. Lawrence Church in Satrup was built around 1200. Set into the church is an image of a knight, which is believed to be the oldest in Schleswig-Holstein. The construction date and the knight image provide two different historical points of reference: its architecture and a single artwork.

Another historical point of reference lies by the Mühlenstrom: a medieval motte once stood on a barely visible hill. Unlike at the church, here the barely visible rise in the ground is the clue to the site’s former use.

Satrup Outdoor Pool

Satrup Outdoor Pool has four different pools. The swimming pool has five lanes, each 25 meters long. As the pool facilities may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Which of these factors matters most to you depends on whether you want to focus your trip more on history, walks, or swimming.
