Alt Duvenstedt lies on the edge of HĂĽttener Berge Nature Park and is also one of the two municipalities in Central Holstein located within the nature park. The municipality combines a glacially shaped landscape with signposted cycling and walking trails, as well as traces of local history. This gives your stay a range of possible focuses: nature and moorland, getting active on circular trails, or mill and village history.

Moorland in the Nature Park

The nature park’s terminal moraine landscape is characterised by hedgerows, avenues, lakes, forests and moors. Duvenstedter Moor, a raised bog and remarkable biotope with the prospect of regeneration, is part of the municipality. This brings two perspectives together: the overall landscape of the nature park and a specific moorland area within the municipality. If you plan your stay around nature, you can distinguish between the park’s overall scenery and the local moor.

Plan cycling and walking trails

Five regional circular cycling and walking trails are signposted in Alt Duvenstedt. The village is also connected to the wider cycling and hiking network by several routes. Several rest areas with shelters provide places to pause along the way. For planning, these offer two useful perspectives: you can look for a signposted circular route or take the network connections into account when choosing your route. One circular cycling and walking trail also includes Kolonistenhof. The Alt Duvenstedt routes have been added to the tour planners of the NOK Tourist Information Office; before planning, check whether these planning resources are still available.

For a short outing, consider the approximately 300-metre-long path, which offers views across the lowlands of Otterbek and Stente. Bistensee lies along these routes. As the surrounding land is privately owned, there is no public bathing area there. If you want to combine cycling or walking with swimming, take this into account when planning.

Mill, place name and village museum

Stentener Mill was built between 1697 and 1699. With its well-preserved sails, it is considered a kind of local landmark. Another date relates to the place name: “Duvenstede” first appeared in written records in 1328. The dates therefore point to two different historical traces—the construction of the mill and the first written mention of the name.

Alt Duvenstedt Village Museum offers further specific insights. Its features include a reconstructed old oven and a restored half-timbered wall dating from 1780. The distinction between reconstruction and restoration illustrates two different ways of engaging with historical objects.

Regional context and further options

The wider Rendsburg-Eckernförde travel region offers a broader perspective on the entire district: it has a 1,000-kilometre network of signposted cycling routes, and four nature parks are located within the district. These regional details complement Alt Duvenstedt’s local connection to the nature park and its routes.

Alt Duvenstedt also has an outdoor swimming pool. If you would like to visit, check in advance whether it will be open during your stay.
