At Lake Dobersdorf, you can explore wildlife watching, activities on the water and cultural sites as different points of interest. The circular route offers opportunities to observe nature; a path around the lake provides access to the protected FFH area on the eastern shore. For your plans, this means you can discover the landscape on foot, from the water or by visiting its named historical sites.

Lake Dobersdorf and its protected area

Lake Dobersdorf is a nutrient-rich, unstratified lowland lake with a relatively small catchment area. On its eastern shore lies the Natura 2000 FFH area “Nutrient-rich fen meadow on the eastern shore of Lake Dobersdorf,” EU site 1627-391. The protected area is characterized by hills and valleys, as well as several small, natural streams and spring areas. The lake thus combines a distinctive waterbody classification with a varied landscape.

A path around the lake provides access to the FFH area. If you plan to visit the protected area, check local access conditions and the state of the paths before your visit. This is particularly helpful if you want to set aside time outdoors specifically for the circular route or the protected area.

On foot, on the water or with a fishing rod

The circular route around Lake Dobersdorf offers opportunities to observe nature. White-tailed eagles, red kites and western marsh harriers are observed around Lake Dobersdorf and Lake Passade. Such sightings depend on the season and are not guaranteed, so plan them as a possible discovery rather than a fixed part of your itinerary.

If you prefer to be out on the water, you can explore Lake Dobersdorf from either side in a rental boat. Rental boat jetties are available in Tökendorf and Schlesen. As availability should be checked before your trip, it is advisable to enquire in advance. This allows you to plan a boat trip as a separate activity alongside the circular route.

Fishing is another option at the lake: Lake Dobersdorf is considered a predatory-fish angling venue with strong zander and pike stocks. Fishing is generally done from a boat. Stocks and conditions can change, so check the current rules before fishing.

Cultural sites along the Lake Dobersdorf route

Named cultural and historical attractions along the Lake Dobersdorf route include the ice cellar in Bookhorn woodland, the remains of a medieval motte near Jasdorf, and Dobersdorf Manor House. These historic sites offer a different focus from wildlife watching and activities on the lake.

Dobersdorf Manor House was built for Christopher von Blome in 1770–1772 and is considered a significant work of the Rococo period. The motte near Jasdorf survives only in remnants. Together with the ice cellar in Bookhorn woodland, these sites give the route several distinct points of historical and cultural interest.

Choose the focus of your trip

When planning your day, you can first decide what you want to focus on: the circular route and wildlife watching, an outing in a rental boat, fishing from a boat or the cultural sites along the route. These options offer different focuses, so you do not have to fit everything into one outing.
