Probsteierhagen combines a long village history with architecture and paths through green landscapes. St. Katharinen stands in the village centre; nearby are mixed forests, Lake Passader and the Kassee ponds. Local hiking and cycling routes, as well as forest trails, offer opportunities to get active outdoors. Baltic Sea beaches and bathing spots are about eight kilometres from Probsteierhagen. This makes history, scenery and a possible coastal focus part of the same stay.
Village History and Castle Architecture
Probsteierhagen is considered an old village of craftsmen and farmers; it was first mentioned in records in 1259. St. Katharinen in the village centre was built in the 13th century. There is stucco work in the altar area. Hagen Castle was built in 1649 by Heinrich Blome as a three-winged brick building with stepped gables. The castle’s Blome Room features an impressive stucco ceiling. The stucco work in the altar area and the ceiling in the Blome Room create distinct architectural accents. Hagen Castle is considered a restored cultural and event venue and is surrounded by a green park.
Paths, Forests and Water
For outdoor activities, Probsteierhagen offers local hiking trails, cycling routes and forest paths; the surrounding area includes mixed forests, Lake Passader and the Kassee ponds. The Probstei also has four signposted cycling routes. Kilometres of paved, well-signposted cycling and hiking paths run through fields and meadows, villages, and past historic monuments, beaches and inland lakes. Sea fishing in the nearby Baltic Sea is another activity for visitors. Boat trips from Kiel, Laboe or Schönberg are also worth considering as an addition to a stay in the area.
Hiking and cycling are options both in the immediate area and across the wider network of paths in the Probstei. The approximate distance to Baltic Sea beaches and bathing spots offers another focus for planning: you can complement history and paths through green landscapes with a trip to the water.
