Stolpe combines a natural history museum visit with trails along Stolper See and through a moorland landscape. This gives you several different options to plan around: the collection at the Prehistoric Farm, the approximately 8 km loop around the lake, or cycling routes through the village. Check current visitor information and trail conditions when planning these activities into your stay.

Prehistoric Farm, collection and farm café

Since June 22, 2019, the Prehistoric Farm Museum and its farm café have been located in Stolpe. The collection includes fossils, minerals and animals from the present day. The Prehistoric Farm presents natural science topics to a broad audience and complements the landscape themes with a museum visit. The exhibition content may change; check current visitor information in advance.

The farm café serves homemade cakes and gateaux. Regional products shape the seasonal offerings; food and opening arrangements may change. If you would like to include the café in your visit, check current visitor information in advance.

Stolper Moor and Stolper See

Stolper Moor is a fen along the Schierenseer Au. The stream flows into Stolper See in the south; on the lakeshore, alder carr gives way to a broad reed belt. Galloway cattle graze in the wet meadows to preserve the character of the wet grassland. The municipality acquired land in the moor for ecological compensation and nature conservation; landscape management measures may change. There is also a bathing area at Stolper See.

Getting around on foot and by bike

Loop around Stolper See

The loop around Stolper See is about 8 km long and takes approximately 2.5 hours. It starts at the school in Stolpe and crosses the Gärtnersteg bridge to a path above the lake, which offers views across the water. The loop also includes the old cobbled road to Gut Perdoel, a crossing of the Alte Schwentine and the route to where the Alte Schwentine flows into Stolper See. The route details come from a local description dating from 2014; check trail conditions, signage and access on site.

Cycling routes through Stolpe

Two routes offer different options for cycling: the Vicelinweg runs along the Gärtnersteg, parallel to Stolper See, through a landscape characterised by hedgerows. The red main route of the Limes Saxoniae passes through Stolpe; a detour leads to the bathing area at Stolper See. Check the route and signage before setting out.

Plön as the wider landscape setting

In the wider travel destination of Plön, around 80 lakes lie within the district. These include Großer Plöner See, covering 29 km², and Selenter See, covering 22 km². Large parts of the district belong to Holstein Switzerland Nature Park, which covers 75,000 hectares. Holstein Switzerland is characterised by gentle hills, lakes, beech forests, villages and manor estates. These regional features describe the wider setting of Plön.
