Vollerwiek is located right next to the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The Wadden Sea borders around 45 percent of the municipality. The changing tides influence the choice between swimming at high tide and exploring the exposed mudflats at low tide. There are also guided mudflat walks, paths along the dike and through the village, and seasonal dining and cultural offerings. When planning your stay, it is worth taking tide times and event dates into account.

Experience the Wadden Sea and green beach with the tides

The green bathing area offers swimming in the North Sea at high tide; at low tide, you can access the exposed mudflats. The facilities include sand pits and showers, and there is also a nearby restaurant and free parking. Facilities and seasonal services may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

Guided mudflat walks take place at low tide. The starting point is the SĂĽderdeich/Wagenak intersection; the focus is on mudflat wildlife such as lugworms and cockles. Tours and dates depend on the schedule, so it is advisable to check the planned dates in advance. The focus differs: at the green beach, it is on swimming and changing water levels, while the guided walk explores the mudflats and their wildlife.

Dike paths, village church and photography

Vollerwiek can be explored on foot and by bicycle along paths by the dike and through the village. Each type of route offers a different focus: one follows the dike, while the other leads through the village.

St. Martin’s Church stands in the village center. It is dated to 1113; its carved altar is considered the oldest among the churches on Eiderstedt. Galerie Küstenfocus is also in the village center and offers photography-focused visits as well as photo walks. Opening hours and photo walk dates may vary; plan your visit around the current schedule.

Seasonal dining and Eiderstedt’s architectural heritage

At Hof Jürgens, you can pick raspberries during the raspberry season in July and August. Glücks-Café serves fresh berry cake; you can also buy homemade preserves and berry drinks. Offerings may vary from year to year.

Dat WeinCafé serves homemade cakes, waffles, light meals and drinks in the historic Haubarg am Meer, built in 1849. Guided visits focus on Eiderstedt architecture and the history of the building. The café operates seasonally from April to October; dates may change. When choosing your travel dates, it is helpful to compare the seasons: raspberry picking is possible in July and August, while the WeinCafé season runs from April to October.
