Beerheide offers several highlights for a nature-focused getaway: hiking routes, nearby Röthelstein, Vogtlandsee and local history. The town lies at an elevation of around 710 metres above sea level on the watershed between the Zwickauer Mulde and the Rote Göltzsch. In suitable weather, the view stretches west and north as far as the heights of the Thüringer Grenzrücken.

The countryside around Beerheide

Röthelstein is near Beerheide and is a quartzite rock formation with an open-air stage. This brings together a geological feature and a cultural use in one place: the traditional Whitsun singing event has been held at Röthelstein every year on Whit Sunday since 1953. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event date for the year in question.

Vogtlandsee is in the forest between Beerheide, Waldpark Grünheide and Jägersgrün. This artificial reservoir, covering around six hectares, was built between 1935 and 1937 for flood protection. It is used as a swimming lake in summer. Check the conditions and access before planning a day of swimming. This makes the lake an option for a warm-weather day, while Röthelstein and the hiking trails cater to other interests.

The Gahlenbachwiese area natural monument is also within the Beerheide district of the town of Auerbach/Vogtland. It adds a protected natural area to the picture of the surrounding countryside. In Beerheide itself, the cemetery chapel is a reminder of local history: it was built in 1890, along with the cemetery.

Hiking, cycling and horse riding

The Beerheide Hiking Club recommends twelve hiking routes to visitors. Information boards showing the routes are located at three hiking car parks: at the Waldsportplatz, the Kulturhaus Beerheide and the Ortsplatz Beerheide. You can get an overview of the routes there; check the signs on site before setting out.

The options differ clearly when choosing an activity: there are twelve recommended hiking routes, as well as a well-developed network of surfaced cycle paths around Beerheide for leisure rides. Those who would like to explore the area on horseback will find a well-developed, signposted network of riding trails. These details describe different ways to experience the area, without implying that there is a specific connection or shared route between them.

In Beerheide, visitors can learn the correct Nordic walking technique from medically trained professionals and borrow suitable poles. Check availability in advance. Wellness offerings include treatments with honey, chocolate or aromatic oils, revitalising massages, and natural remedies such as peat. If you have a particular treatment in mind, ask about the specific options beforehand.

Culture and practical planning

The open-air stage at Röthelstein provides a permanent venue for the traditional Whitsun singing event, while the cemetery chapel is a reminder of Beerheide’s history.

Beerheide is accessible via the A72 motorway. Carriage rides may also be an option during your stay: Reiterhof Reichelt offers rides through the forests of Beerheide and the Vogtland. Arrange the details before your trip. Important if you are planning for children or adults who would like to ride: since 1 October 2025, Reiterhof Reichelt has no longer held regular riding lessons for children and adults.
