A rocky promontory, the Pulsnitz River and a historic long-distance trade route give Königsbrück several points of interest. The castle stands on a rock partly surrounded by the Pulsnitz; at the same time, the historic town layout reflects the crossing of two long-distance trade routes, including the Via Regia. The castle’s setting and the town’s trading history thus offer two distinct themes for your stay.
Town History and the Via Regia
The Via Regia Architecture Model Exhibition presents prominent buildings along the historic road as detailed models at a scale of 1:25. The uniform scale offers a different focus from the history of the road junction: here, the buildings of the Via Regia take center stage. This allows you to distinguish between town history and architectural models when planning your time. Each model shows a building at one twenty-fifth of its actual size.
Guided tours tailored to visitors’ interests and needs are available for groups of five or more. Confirm tour arrangements and opening hours before your visit. You can also visit the Stenz Poorhouse as a further historic point of interest: it has been restored to its original form.
Landscape and Trails
Königsbrück Heath covers 6,932 hectares. This forest landscape is rich in bodies of water and open land and is one of Germany’s largest nature reserves. Designated visitor trails are available year-round for walking and cycling. Access is permitted on these trails; check access restrictions and trail conditions locally. Past military use should also be taken into account.
The named trails offer different points of interest: the Beaver Trail follows the Pulsnitz and the Bohraer Wasser, where beavers shape their habitats. The Tower Trail offers views from Haselberg Tower over the nature reserve’s natural forest regeneration. The Gräfenhainer Wanderschuh trail begins at the market square in Königsbrück. This gives you a specific starting point, waterways and views of forest regeneration as different points of reference.
If you prefer a guided tour, excursions in Königsbrück Heath with field guides last about three hours and are available on foot or by bicycle. This approximate duration can help you set aside a block of time for a guided tour. On the designated trails, you can instead focus on walking or cycling; check local conditions independently when you arrive.
More Activities and Finding Accommodation
Königsbrück outdoor pool has a 1,000-square-meter leisure pool and a 40-meter-long stainless-steel water slide. As opening is seasonal, confirm opening dates and facilities before your trip. This lets you plan a possible visit to the outdoor pool without confusing it with activities permitted year-round on designated heath trails.
Königsbrück is connected by the B97, B98 and S100 roads.
