Bietegast’s history includes a document from the 14th century, historic houses and festivals held in different years. Cycling and hiking opportunities in the wider Kemberg area provide additional options. When planning your trip, it is worth making a distinction: the historic buildings and events shape your view of the village, while the routes in the wider area offer a separate focus. This way, you can decide whether you would rather explore village history or cycling and hiking topics.

Historic Traces in Bietegast

A document dated 5 June 1377 mentions Bietegast. The village has been part of the Rackith parish since the earliest records. The Bietegast estate farm is also connected with Rackith: as early as the 16th century, it belonged to the wider holdings of the Rackith estate archive and remained in existence until the 19th century. The historical connections therefore span the 14th to the 19th centuries; the document and the estate farm mark different periods.

At Dorfstraße 12 is a brick farmhouse, built around 1890 in its original appearance. At Dorfstraße 15 stands a mid-19th-century day labourer’s house made of rendered clay. At Dorfstraße 22 is a brick farmstead, built around 1900. These allow you to compare three building types and their materials: a brick farmhouse and farmstead, and a day labourer’s house made of rendered clay. The dates range from the mid-19th century to around 1900. Anyone interested in rural architectural history can also note the different building terms.

Festivals for Different Occasions

The Bietegast Village Festival is one of the village’s traditional local festivals. The 2023 edition took place on 1 and 2 July at Storchennest. The programme included a coffee concert; dancing began at 7 p.m., and the live band Random & Showact performed. The 2023 Bietegast Village Festival featured a coffee concert, dancing from 7 p.m. and a performance by the live band Random & Showact.

The residents of Bietegast organised an Advent celebration on the second Sunday of Advent. Around 60 visitors attended the celebration in December 2016. There were surprises for children, including children from the surrounding area, as well as mulled wine and bratwurst. Alongside the village festival in July, the Advent celebration offers a different seasonal format: a gathering on the second Sunday of Advent with surprises for children and refreshments.

Cycling and Hiking Opportunities in the Wider Kemberg Area

The 20.8 km “Coal / Fire / Lakes” adventure, cycling and hiking trail combines cycling and hiking in the wider Kemberg area. Its stops include “On the Trail of Coal” at Waldhaus am Bergwitzsee, “Keeping the Fire Burning” at Friedrichsee and “How the Lakes Formed” at Königsee. The stops cover different topics and give the route a thematic structure. If you would like to combine cycling or hiking with these topics, the named stops provide specific points to help you choose.

Another option in the wider Kemberg area is the 8.4 km cycling loop around Bergwitzsee. Points of interest along the way include Hoffmannshöhe, woodcarving, a beach, Waldhaus, a nature education garden and Bergwitzsee Resort. Based on its stated length, the loop is shorter than the 20.8 km adventure, cycling and hiking trail; it is also described as a cycling loop rather than a combination of cycling and hiking. This gives you two clear criteria for choosing: route length and type of activity. The cycling network in the wider area also includes the Europaradweg R 1 between Bergwitz and Radis, the Berlin–Leipzig Cycle Route and the KOHLE | DAMPF | LICHT Cycle Route.
