Rollsdorf offers several ways to plan your stay: a trail along Bindersee with views across the reed beds to the lake, a hike through the Rösetal valley, and St. Petri with its Neo-Gothic architecture. When planning, it helps to distinguish the trails around Rollsdorf from activities in the wider Süßer See area. This lets you focus on lakeside views, hiking landscapes, nature or architectural history.

Hiking along the Lakeshore and through the Rösetal

A trail from Rollsdorf follows the western shore of Bindersee and offers views across the reed beds to the lake. The shoreline and reeds shape the scenery. Another option is the easy, 4.3-kilometre hike through the Rösetal valley. It runs from Seeburg to Bindersee via Rollsdorf, through vineyards and alongside a small stream. The trail follows a well-maintained gravel path.

The two trail descriptions highlight different landscape features: at Bindersee, the focus is on the shore, reeds and views of the water; in the Rösetal, on vineyards, the stream and the gravel path. The 4.3 kilometres refer to the Rösetal hike.

A Unique Natural Site

The FND (Flächennaturdenkmal) “Senkungsspaltensystem bei Rollsdorf” is a special habitat where rare species typical of dry and semi-dry grasslands have become established. Examples include Ausdauernder Windsbock and Sandveilchen. These plants from dry and semi-dry habitats complement the lakeside and vineyard scenery along the hiking trails.

St. Petri: Architecture and Dates

St. Petri in Rollsdorf is a Neo-Gothic rubble-stone building that was consecrated in 1903. The baptismal font inside the church bears the inscription “1573”. The two dates have different meanings: 1903 marks the consecration of the church building, while 1573 is the inscription on the baptismal font.

St. Petri has been designated an “Open Church” since summer 2017. If you are planning to visit the interior, check in advance what visiting options are currently available; local arrangements may change.

Activities in the Wider Süßer See Area

The wider area around Süßer See and the Mansfelder Land Lake District offers various activities: visitors can sail, surf, stroll and hike along the lakeshore. There is also a 15-kilometre developed cycling path. Other named routes include the E11 European long-distance hiking trail and the Saale-Harz long-distance cycle route.

Fishing is possible with a fishing licence. The lake district offers wellness facilities; pedal boats and rowing boats are also available for hire. These options are available in the wider lake area, not just in Rollsdorf. This distinction is useful when planning your trip: the trails described follow Bindersee or pass through the Rösetal, while sailing, surfing and boat hire are part of the broader range of leisure activities around the lake.
