In Eppelborn, you can choose from trails with an industrial history, landscaped garden areas and longer routes. This lets you plan your stay around your interests: make time for a historic path, visit the gardens, or enjoy an extended hike or bike ride. Each destination offers different points of reference and time requirements.
Industrial history and walking trails
The Wiesbach Miners’ Path is a preserved footpath and cart track from the industrial era that led to the Göttelborn mine. It has retained its original form and was recognised as an archaeological monument in 2022. There is no parking directly on the trail. Park at Outreau-Platz in Wiesbach and walk from there to the path.
Finkenrech offers varied, well-signposted walking trails. Its Nordic.Fitness.Park is the first licensed Nordic fitness park in Saarland; its three routes pass through the forests of Finkenrech and alongside the KlingelfloĂźbach stream. Check trail conditions and route availability locally before your visit.
A signposted walking route to Finkenrech also starts at Eppelborn railway station. It is about five kilometres long. Small signs and arrow markers showing distances point in both directions. As the route and signage may change, it is worth checking the information again before setting out.
Gardens with different themes
Finkenrech is an environmental and leisure centre at the southern gateway to Saar-HunsrĂĽck Nature Park. The rose garden covers around 1,500 square metres and contains approximately 3,700 roses. These figures are estimates; in particular, the number of roses may change over time.
The Asian Garden is characterised by winding paths, landscaped gravel areas, water features and ponds. The fragrance, medicinal and herb gardens focus on plants and their uses as spices and remedies. The garden areas also offer ideas for designing and caring for ornamental and kitchen gardens. The garden theme therefore ranges from layout and design to the uses of plants.
Historic sites and other places to visit
Buseck Castle in Bubach-Calmesweiler is a Baroque estate built in 1735 and is considered an important testament to the history of the former lordship of Eppelborn. Another geographical reference point is in the district of Habach: the official geometric centre of Saarland is located there. The information board stands 55 metres north of the exact point.
Hellbergbad combines a range of bathing and heat facilities, including an infrared heat cabin, a steam bath, a sunbathing lawn, a children’s paddling pool with a slide and an outdoor Kneipp pool. Hellbergbad offers water aerobics, aqua jogging classes and Hydro Power. Operating conditions and class times may change; check both before your visit.
Planning cycling and longer hiking routes
The Eppelborn Cycling Loop is about 32.2 kilometres long. It runs mainly along paved paths, with some sections on field and forest tracks. The Panorama Trail is about 23.9 kilometres long and takes a full day or two days. The routes therefore offer different planning options: the loop’s length and surface help with orientation, while the Panorama Trail’s greater time commitment is the main consideration. Do not convert the route distances into walking or cycling times; check the conditions for each route in advance.
