The Hohe Eifelblick on Radersberg is both a viewpoint and a rest area, with seating, two forest loungers and a large swing. Other highlights for your stay in Dreis-Brück range from geology and healing water to time by the water, trails and local history.

Dry Maar and Mineral Spring

Dreiser Weiher is a dry maar formed in a volcanic collapse crater. It is one of the largest maars in the Eifel. It measures approximately 1,360 metres from north to south and 1,180 metres across. These dimensions give a concrete sense of the scale of this landform.

Mineral deposits also contribute to the geological interest of Dreiser Weiher: the surrounding volcanic ash is known for them, including olivine bombs. Vulkania healing water comes from a state-recognised mineral spring, which is open to the public at Dreiser Weiher. Visitors can drink the water directly at the spring. Check locally whether the water is suitable for drinking before doing so.

Reservoir and Viewpoints

The reservoir in the Dreis district has a water surface area of 10,000 square metres. Its upper section contains a wetland biotope with a water surface. At the reservoir, you can picnic, sunbathe or relax in peaceful surroundings. It is also a starting point for hikes and trail runs on designated routes. It is suitable for fishing too, although local conditions may vary.

The waterside highlights differ: Dreiser Weiher is a dry maar, a geological landform known for its mineral deposits, while the reservoir offers opportunities for recreation and activities. At the Hohe Eifelblick on Radersberg, the rest area features seating, two forest loungers and a large swing as well as a viewpoint.

Walking and Mountain Biking Trails

The Panorama Trail is about nine kilometres long; one of its stops is a small chapel beside the spring. The Quellenweg is a circular trail around Dreis-Brück and Dockweiler that passes Vulkania healing spring and Dreiser Weiher. The two trails therefore differ in their stated landmarks: the chapel by the spring is a stop on the Panorama Trail, while the healing spring and pond are part of the Quellenweg route.

The MTB Vulkan-Trails start in the centre of Dreis. They follow forest and farm tracks and partly circle Ernstberg. The MTB route from Dreis leads into the Vulkaneifel landscape, characterised by gentle hills, streams and lush forests. These mountain-biking routes complement the hiking trails with another way to experience the landscape actively.

Architectural History, Remembrance and Local Tradition

Burg Dreis is first mentioned in 1579. The building is a three-storey gabled house with a round stair tower. The mountain chapel stands in the Dreis area at an altitude of 577 metres, beside an old Roman road. It was dedicated in 1950 in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Near the cemetery in Brück, the Bomber Crash memorial stone commemorates the crash of an American B-17 on 1 December 1943. Alongside architectural and religious history, it provides a specific historical memorial site to include in your plans.

A distinctive local dish is Kässchmerr: buttered bread with toppings, served in Dreis during Hexennacht as part of being welcomed into the youth group. This tradition connects a simple dish with a specific occasion and local community. Together with the castle, chapels and memorial stone, it offers a different way to discover local history than the geological features and recreational trails.
