When choosing a route, Kürrenberg offers trails with different profiles: the wheelchair-accessible trail is about 3.2 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour; the Reiningweg is a 5.3-kilometre circular route around Bleiberg. There is also the MY-Trail, a mountain bike and freeride trail. The Vulkanpark climbing forest is located between Mayen and Mayen-Kürrenberg. The history of this Mayen district also offers a focus of its own.

Hiking trails with different profiles

The wheelchair-accessible trail starts and ends at the car park on Reiningweg. The level route through Kürrenberg is about 3.2 kilometres long, takes approximately one hour and has only slight changes in elevation. It is easy and particularly suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and walkers. There are numerous places to rest and two shelters along the way. The tour is recommended in the warmer months, especially from April to September.

The Reiningweg is a 5.3-kilometre circular hike through Kürrenberg Forest. It goes around Bleiberg and offers views of the Nitz Valley. Kürrenberg is right beside Mayen’s municipal forest, where there are numerous circular hiking trails with viewpoints over the Eifel and the Nitz Valley. This gives you two different profiles to choose from: a level route of approximately one hour that is particularly suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and walkers, and a longer forest hike around Bleiberg.

Another day hike starts in Mayen-Kürrenberg: the Traumpfad Förstersteig is a circular hike through various stream valleys, with panoramic views of the Eifel. This adds a route featuring stream valleys as a landscape theme of its own to the hiking trails through Kürrenberg Forest.

Mountain biking and a forest setting

The MY-Trail is an official mountain bike and freeride trail, just under 500 metres long, in the Mayen district of Kürrenberg. Its short length sets it apart from the multi-kilometre hikes. For the Vulkanpark climbing forest, its location is the key planning detail: it is situated between Mayen and Mayen-Kürrenberg on the B 258, in the heart of the forest in the Eastern Eifel.

Church and traces of history

The Catholic Church of St. Bernhard in Mayen-Kürrenberg was built in 1900/1901 as a Neo-Romanesque hall church. Its construction dates provide a specific point of reference for local architectural history and came several centuries after the events associated with the witch hunts.

In 1551, the innocent women of Kürrenberg Veiten Wittib, Heuser Anna, Emmerich Hey, Girhatz and Kirsten Jammers, among others, were executed at the stake. Schinhengst was also a place of execution during the witch hunts. Alongside the hiking and outdoor activities, these historical traces offer another way to experience Kürrenberg. Genovevaburg Castle in Mayen is a landmark and stands on a rocky hill above the market square.
