Körperich is located in the Southern Eifel Nature Park. Three distinct themes can help you plan your stay: the outdoor adventure pool, historic sites and the Königseiche, a natural monument. The fertile Gaybach Valley is known as the “Golden Ground.” You can focus on swimming and exercise, historic buildings or the natural landscape.
Outdoor Swimming and Activities
Körperich’s outdoor adventure pool has swimming, non-swimmer and toddler pools, slides, a climbing wall and a diving tower. There is also a beach volleyball court and well-maintained lawns for relaxing. You can get active and unwind on the lawns. A campsite adjoins the pool; there is also a youth camping area with a barbecue shelter. Some facilities may be temporarily unavailable. Before your visit, check which facilities are open.
Natural Landscape and Visitor Information
The Königseiche is designated as a natural monument. The area immediately around it is cordoned off because branches may break off during storms. Access restrictions may change depending on forestry and safety conditions, so check before visiting. The Southern Eifel Nature Park can also help you choose activities: it has almost 940 kilometres of hiking trails and also offers cycling routes. Hiking and cycling are two different ways to explore the nature park.
Architectural History and Culture
Kewenig Castle is a historic castle that offers insights into regional history. Concerts and vernissages are held there in summer; in winter, the Christmas market is a visitor tradition. As seasonal programmes may change, check event dates before your trip.
The Catholic parish church of St. Hubertus has medieval foundations. Its west tower and choir were built in the Neoclassical style in 1826. The different construction phases give the church a clear chronology: the medieval foundations were followed by work on the tower and choir in the 19th century.
Circular Hiking Trail 43 offers another combination of activity and culture. Its route includes the Furnace and Iron Museum in Hüttingen, with the Ofenstube museum café. The museum is a specific stop along the trail, and the café is part of the museum’s offerings.
More Places to Visit in the Wider Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm Destination
The wider Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm destination also has cultural attractions with a range of themes. At the Mühlenberger Stollen Bleialf visitor mine, one-hour guided tours explain ore mining in Bleialf, from geology to applied technology. The mine also has a mining trail with numerous information boards about the area’s mining history. Check the current tour times before your trip.
The Devonium in Waxweiler explains complex topics in palaeontology and the science of fossil life in a playful way. The Westwall Museum offers a different focus: it is housed on three accessible floors of a bunker and presents a military history exhibition in underground passageways and rooms.
The Rittersdorf moated castle, around 700 years old, has remained almost unchanged since it was built. It offers an impressive picture of late medieval and early modern Renaissance residential culture. The castle also has a privately run restaurant serving fine country cuisine. Check before your trip whether the restaurant is open.
